I was thinking about what you said about identification by a very unusual or startling appearance of a peregrine, and got to thinking; are there ever albino peregrines or peregrines with unusual plumage patterns? I found an interesting article. It seems rare but it seems to happen. (Schizochromism in a Peregrine Falcon from Arizona; j RaptorRes.36(3):200-202). What's your experience with this TPC?

Princess has been our most unusual I think with her crown and high breast speckles.  T-Rex had this fantastic full black cap that others have come close to having but his was the best.  The other thing that is interesting is that our birds rarely if ever have the "salmon wash" that is mentionned in the literature.  And Some of our birds get a pale pink (pink not salmon, nor rusty coloured) wash on their white breast feathers later in the year but that's about it.  Other than that, nope, nothing much.

Just so folks don't get confused by Allikat's teasing of Eye-Spy  ;) ;D  We really haven't determined who the female is yet.  We think its Hurricane by her behaviour and the pair's quick romance, but remember, Ivy was pretty hot to trot with Sandy at the Radisson and that certainly didn't go anywhere.  We have photos and it looks like her, but plumage changes subtly with each year's moult so we don't rely on plumage unless there is something startling.  Princess' crown is pretty startling but I don't even rely on that to confirm her identity.  So Brooklyn we are sure about and "maybe-Hurricane" and we'll keep trying to entice her to show us her other dainty little foot ...

I know we don't have her band numbers yet, but I am pretty sure Hurricane is the female.   ;)

Well Brooklyn and our Dark Miss weren't too pleased today,2 men were working on the tower so how can there be any hanky-panky with someone in your bedroom???? :P. Brooklyn was on the south light glowering at the tower and Miss???? was on her east light doing the same, then she flew off to the Scotia tower baffles and there she stayed. We could see her silver band quite plainly on her left leg but she refused to turn the other way. Brooklyn went to the nest box and continued to glower at the tower. ::)
