This one in front got most of the food, Mom tried giving to the others and this one would lunge and grab it, greedy little bugger. I watched two in the back having a tug a war over a piece.  Half way through the feeding the one in front did an about face and decorated the wall with a poop shoot.   ::)

Susha and Jo I have seen what looks as wingercising as well.  Can't say that they were trying to balance themselves but who knows. Looked pretty cute for only 11/12 days old.  Maybe they had a kink they needed to work out ;D

Actually wingercizing doesn't begin until they have flight feathers ... at this age they are using their wings to balance themselves and to help them move around, next they will actually be able to get up on their feet properly and waddle about but until then, their wings help them out.

And yes, first fledges are on average about 45 days but males will go first and females last, up to a week between the genders or not.  We'll know when they are going to fledge by their behaviour ... and lots of serious wingercizing  :D

Could someon explain what wingercizing exactly is? When should all of this start to happen? And how long do they typically stay in the nest?  :)

tpc is our expert but if you combine wing and exercise, you get wingerizing...  ;D

I think it's part of our forum vocabulary but Tracy can set us straignt

Chickita, "wingercizing" is when the chicks flap their wings like mad, exercising in preparation for the big day when they actually take off from the nestbox (fledge).  I'm still very much in the learning phase of my time on this forum and I keep forgetting what I've learned  ::) but I believe that we can expect fledging to occur at around 45 days from hatching - TPC is the Maven of all things Peregrine and she'll correct me if I'm wrong.  And I didn't pay attention when wingersizing began in previous years, but it seems early with this crew ;D

Another nice day for the "Royals" 8)  Little cool earlier on but actually quite nice right now.  Babes all stretched out by the wall soaking the heat from the sun.

I've been noticing that wingercizing has started already - it's been happening for a few days actually.  Don't know if it's the same chick, or if they're all taking turns, but it seems early :o  Of course, these guys all seem very advanced :-*

Snack time -  Princess brought in lunch, told Ivy to scram and she's feeding the chicks in the corner with her back to us.

Someone was starting to wing-ersize just before lunch.

Chick pile in the corner with parent close by. I think it's Ivy.

Never mind - parent just left - chick pile didn't seem to notice.

They are getting so big!

All huddled in the far corner this morning with Mom as wind break.  Don't fit under Mumbrella anymore but sure try!

A feeding but parent was blocking the view. Chickpile was in corner and stayed there for the feeding.

I just missed what happened - a parent was just there - I caught their back side as they were exiting.
