Oh boy!  Oh boy!  Oh boy!  It feels like somebirdie is going to fly away!!  With the wind and the daredevil stunts these little guys are pulling, it feels like it could happen intentionally or other wise, any minute! :o

Know how you feel Kinderchick, as the cam went live, one birdie was on the ledge, wings out and the wind picked him up, he flapped madly and hopped back into the nest! ouf :P

This morning we had a little excitement at school. The Kinderchicklets were watching one or two of the Radisson birds climb up on the edge of the nestbox ledge and wingersize a whole lot. I turned my gaze away from the webcam for about a minute when a few of the 'chicklets began to scream "He flew away! He flew away!" :o I was thinking that perhaps he had only disappeared back into the nestbox, which turned out to be what had happened, but I had to check the Forum just to be sure! :P

Thanks for bailing me out, Eagle.
I'd been quite pleased to notice her white crown, but then misnamed our Princess.

I think Bcbird just misnamed the bird, it was probably Princess.

Radisson dropped in and picked at the carcass, finding bits to feed the noisy bunch.
She perched on the edge as she doled out the morsals.
She left with the carcass.
One daredevil then hopped on the edge and did a bit of wingersizing.

Doesn't make it any less nerve-wracking I know :)

Okay, an inch to an inch and a half -- sigh . . . that's actually worse than I imagined. Every year this happens, and every year I still end up with my heart in my throat! I know their natural habitat is cliff edges, but still . . .

Just keep the reassurance coming, TPC!  :-*

0938h

Carson is at the far end of the ledge and is only visible on the ledge-cam when he is sitting up.  Beatrix, Fyfe and Cade are all napping in the back of the nestbox in a giant pile - hard to tell where one starts and the next ends  :D

TPC, just how wide is that nestbox edge that the two daredevils are perched on? It looks like such a perilous perch, even though I know they'll soon be flying!

The box edge is about an 1-1.5 inches wide.  And this is normal behaviour.  Wingercize in the box.  Climb up on edge.  Perch on edge for hours.  Learn how to hop down/up to ledge that runs along the wall beside the nestbox.  Wingercize on ledge.  Wingercize on box edge.  Fly.

Does make it any less nerve-wracking I know :)

If Beatrix takes after her mother, she'll probably follow the lead of the females from the last couple of years -- Vesper and Isis -- and quickly earn the nickname of Queen Bea! As long as you mean an autocratic, demanding monarch, that is!

Esmeralda? ;D

Although I voted for Esmeralda for sentimental reasons, I quite like Beatrix and will happily refer to our girl by that distinguished handle, now that it's been decided :)

DITTO!!!  ;D ;D  I quite like the nickname "Queen Bea"!   :)
