Okay, some conflicting wind numbers - forecast for today is 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h.  Oddly, the conditions at The Forks (a few blocks away from the Hotel) show a wind speed of 9 km/h, and that sure as heck ain't 9 km/h blowing Princess and the kids right now.  At the Airport the wind is currently reported to be 28 km/h but it doesn't show what the gusts are, but I imagine we are probably pretty close right now.  The birds have weathered 20-30 km/h winds before this year, so I think we may be seeing the worst right now.  Once the winds pick up, the adults do tend to get better at staying tucked down.  And the chicks will be okay for short periods of time out from under their parents if it happens.  And they are partially mobile so they can help to get themselves back under when/if it happens.  The adults will want them all under, so no one should be left stranded for long - it will just seem that way to us.

If we are very lucky, the wind might diminish when/if we get rain.  Its the only positive thought I can think of right now ...

Wow you guys are right, the wind sure is picking up out there. That tail just keeps blowing up and I hold my breath hoping there are no more acrobatic flips. Its days like this when I wish they had chosen to lay their eggs in the nest box they used last year. Much better protection from the elements. Ah well, live and learn.

Until she got her tail feathers against the wall, a phrase ran through my geek head.

Houston, we are ready for launch.

Your right, very scary, when she went over feathers over kettle and the 3rd chick got stranded that was scarrrrrrrrry because it was in line of her legs and that's how it got stranded. But they seem to be getting their feet about them such that it was able to manaurver up beside Princess until she then tucked them all back under her.

Nope number 3 seems to be beside mom, oh good now mum is tucking number 3 under her but everytime she does exposes her tail feathers to the wind so now she is still trying to get them all tucked underneather, there I think she has accomplished it with the wind hitting her on the side of her wing.
