Not so far fetched. Just watch how the eagles start  rooting in the nest and bring in more materials to make nest deeper and build it up higher as their eaglets get bigger

We all were probably thinking in human terms when we saw her shoring up the pebbles there.

Princess ,bless her heart, is trying to build a mound around them with the pebbles

The ledge doesn't have very many pebbles, most of them are in the corner the birds are using in fact, other parts of the ledge are practically bare.  If there were more pebbles, she would have made a hollow in the substrate for her nest scrape.  Because there aren't enough, she's laid the eggs pretty much on the actual roof material and she's pulling the pebbles around to make a bowl or hollow.  Because every time they move they screw up the "walls" of the hollow, I think that is why Trey has been so frantic about fixing the ledge every time he's there with the kids!

She certainly is busy fussing with the pebbles in the next right now. The chicks are exposed, but the wind isn't ruffling them too much, as they are much closer to the surface of the ledge.
Ah, now she's setting back down on them again after some house-cleaning.

It looked almost as if she was using nest pebbles to build a wind-break around the chicks, but I'm sure that is my human brain talking . . . is that far-fetched in terms of falcon behaviour?

It's been a while since I've since Princess do that much maintenance to the nest. She's off the little ones but still in view of the camera. The Little ones are all huddled together but seem to be reacting to the wind or their missing heat source. There Princess has gone back to brooding, nope still fussing about the nest. Now she seems to be settling down to brooding on the chicks and the wind seems to be gusting again by the amount of camera shake.

You can tell princess when she is looking at you becasue you can see some white just above the cere or beak

trey does not have this bit of white.

It's  Princess brooding, Trey wouldn't have been able to stay on the nest with these winds.

Hi everyone
sorry , I have been off cam for awhile.

After it being down for a day ,I took a break.
It looks like everything is going well except for the winds
I remember those downtown winds well.

Princess seems to be getting a bit of a reprieve from the wind gusts, Tracy was quite observant about Princess positioning herself to the corner and angled just so that the wind isn't hitting her so badly.

Wow even on a windy day like today the little ones still have good aim with shooting poop away from under Mum and hitting the wall in line of fire.

I agree Ballywing, I can't bear watching the wind gusts hitting Princess and wonder if she's going to go toppling over.

Okay, its 1314 hrs and Princess is doing a bit of preening while the camera is being shaken all to bits.  Looks like she has found the spot/direction/height that seems to work in the wind!

She's finished preening now and has her head and tail as close to the gravel as you are going to get them.  She's also moved up the ledge (up in terms of image on the webcam)  so that she is closer in the corner, will certainly help her keep from getting blown off the chicks.  Still some feather fluffing going on, but not as bad as earlier.  I think she may just have found her "spot".  Now if the kids will just sleep through much of the next 24 hours, it will make a tough job tolerable for her!
