Life is a gift that must be given back
and joy should arise from its possession.
It's too damned short, and that's a fact.
Hard to accept, this earthly procession
to final darkness is a journey done,
circle completed, work of art sublime,
a sweet melodic rhyme, a battle won.

Storms do not respond to heartless pleas.
All the words of men can't calm the seas.
Nature--always beneficial and cruel--
won't change for a wise man or a fool.

Dean Koontz, the book of counted sorrows.

the depths of human compassion for our animal friends continues to encourage me to see the GOOD in every living thing, man or beast.

A sad, sad day.

Oh my God, Oh my God!
I leave for twenty minutes and look what happens. I'm so heartbroken to think that our chicks are gone.
We'll keep positive thoughts.... Thank you for the news everyone.

And truly, Thank you Tracy & Team for your efforts.

Princess is sitting on top of the domed building - looks like she is trying to dry out, spending a lot of time moving her wings around......

Here are some of the details from the Winnipeg Free Press Website update:

Falcon chicks rescued from ledge
Peregrines' nesting area flooded following heavy rains

Updated: June 6 at 11:07 AM CDT

A specially trained Winnipeg firefighter was lowered down from the roof of the Radisson Hotel to try and save three Peregrine falcon chicks that faced drowning on a 13th-storey ledge.

The rescue technician rappelled down from the roof to the ledge to take three chicks down to the ground.

It's not known if the chicks are still alive.

The ledge that houses the nesting area of a family of falcons has partially filled with water following the deluge this morning.

A blog entry by Tracy, the longtime co-ordinator of Manitoba's Peregrine Falcon Recovery Project, indicates a rescue is under way at the Radisson, which includes help from Manitoba Conservation.

A remote-controlled "falcon cam" that points at the gravel-covered ledge from an angle about one storey higher is hosted by CBC.

The falcon cam shows one soaked bird covering its chicks, which are less than two weeks old.

The falcon pair had four eggs earlier in the spring, and three hatched on May 28.

Thanks skygirl. I'm sure there will be others who will want to see it for themselves.

I'm with you all.... so very heartrending.  I'm praying and hoping and believing in a miracle.  Please let them just be stressed and survive this ordeal!!!!  Whoever rappelled down that building you are our hero!!!!!!!

I am going to wait for the official word from Tracy...and miracles do happen...but I have seen enough nest tragedy this year that I'm not going to fool myself this time...of course...I hope to be able to eat those words later....

I did record the rescue...but haven't processed it yet...I just don't think I am ready to watch it....

I am hoping that the chicks will be ok,  but I think we need to remember that we are truly lucky that we have the opportunity to see into their world and sometimes things happen that we have no control over.   Thank you to Tracey for her commitment to this project and for giving us the opportunity to experience the good and the bad.

Well said Mardyn.

would be nice to know where the parents are right now. Larry if you see them perched can you try to give us a peek?  Thanks so much for allowing us to see, painful as it was, appreciate the rescue and giving us a front row seat.  Very grateful to Tracy and all  the team for everything.

In a way I wish they would turn the cam off, makes me sick, but they are probably keeping it on to see if they can spot Princess or Trey.

Heartwrenching indeed. And yes sometimes miracles do happen let's hope for one today.
