1820 hrs (local) - really fast shift change, managed only three captures before Trey was down on the eggs, will post later in the gallery.  He's got his tail up against the Hotel, but this is the direction Princess just got flipped on/from.  One thing ... ooops, there he goes right onto his beak.  Back on the eggs, one under his tail, quickly gets that one back under control, nuts one under his wing, okay, one more time around and all there eggs back under Dad and Dad now has his tail welded to the building, good plan maybe, might keep the wind from catching it and him.  Bit more shuggling to get everythng just right and now he is tucked right down low and only a few of feathers are getting "fluffed".  Cam's getting blown around more than he is ... and his tail seems totally out of the way now ...

Okay, just went and checked last year's temps for today ...

2009 @ 1800 hrs =  2.5c
2008 @ 1800 hrs = 21.0c (not kidding)
normal high for this time/period = 20c (aarrgghh)

Environment Canada is showing the wind has shifted to the north (from north-northeast) so maybe this is the beginning of the shift to the northwest and Trey & Princess can have a quieter night.

Aack, Princess got flipped off the eggs.  Back on in less than a second.  Didn't even get much of a look at the eggs other than to confirm we still have three.  She's crossways to the wind again now, she had been north-south, now she's east-west.  Probably better this way.

Only a few more hours 'til the wind dies ...

We are currently at Day 23 of incubation.  Hatch is estimated at Day 30 or later, though we will be watching from Day 28 on.

We hope to have the webcam live before the hatch but no date has been set yet as we are trying to resolve a technical issue.  I will be sending out an email to everyone here and on the e-update list when I do have a final date.

1745 hrs (local) - Princess has spun around and has her tail in the corner which is helping to keep the tailfeathers from getting caught.  Couple of not so close calls, but made me think she might get tossed off the eggs, but no, she's got it worked out.  Her head is in the gravel again, napping.  Haven't seen hide nor feather of Trey but unless she's will to get off, he's on standby.  Will see if he takes over the night duties or if he just relieves Princess long enough for her to eat.

All is well if a little breezy on the ledge however.  The wind is slated to shift from the NNE (currently) to NW this evening, then drop down to light-ish for the next 24/36 hours which should give our adults a break.  Keep your fingers crossed that Environment Canada is right!

1615 hrs (local) Just a point about the wind - it seems to me, from what I've managed to see today, she pretty much has the wind figured out, or at least so far.  I haven't seen her get caught or pushed or flipped by the wind at all this year, she stays low, close to the wall or broadside and though she gets fluffed, he doesn't seem to be tossed around like last year.
As cute/funny as it was to see the tailfeathers-over-crown happening last year, I really am glad she's got it figured out.  Hope Trey listens to her when she's telling him how to do it!   8)

It is really bad down in Minnesota at Elk River, too.  Best of luck to all our peregrines, and to everyone else, have a nice long weekend, despite the weather.
