Well I will say we don't have much choice in who and when the cam gets turned on. I think it would be far more interesting watching the pair with their eggs then reading about it while nothing else is happening at the moment. We also have no choice but to be patient.

Definitely, if there's a chance of getting the shelf done - we can wait - we're very good at that!!  :P ...Plus, it's CBC that turns the camera on, so not as easy as TPC just flipping a switch on & off. In any case, it won't be long now - as we might be willing to wait, but those eggs will NOT wait - hatching is coming soon!!  ;D

I  think it is more important that TPC get the chance to put up the nest box right now.

Couldn't you put the cam on now and switch it off when and if you get the chance to get up to the nest. You have to admit P & T were clever picking the ledge to limit the abilitly for intrusions...hehehe

And the third but unofficial purpose of the web cam is to make us all stop tapping our fingers on the desk, chatting about cheese, chocolate and wine, going off on spam debates, etc, etc, etc.

Tracy, is it true that we're waiting on a web designer to come back from holidays to get the webcam going?

No.  Webcam is working fine (has been for a month) and we could flip the switch at any time.  We are delaying the launch until we have exhausted our chances to get a nest tray in place.  The window of opportunity is closing quickly so the cam will go live very soon.

The webcam has two functions:
- a recovery function = to monitor the nesting peregrines remotely thereby reducing the need to unduly disturb them to check on their progress.
- an education function = to enable the public to learn about the peregrines, understand the complex issues involved in at-risk species recovery efforts and to foster a committment to environmental stewardship.

When the recovery function of the webcam comes into conflict with the educational function, the recovery function takes precedence as that is the primary purpose of the Project.

I will let everyone know in advance, via email, on the Forum and everywhere else we can access, to let you all know when the webcam will go online .

It's the same ledge. Apparently, in the past, they have alternated between the ledge and a purpose-built nesting box on the same building. People here were pretty unhappy that they chose that spot again this year.

I was just wondering, is the ledge they are currently nesting on the same one they were at last year?  If it is not, will they ever go back to the other site, since they lost their chicks there?

9:11 pm CDT.  The wind has finally stopped, it seems.  I hope P&T have a good sleep - soon they'll have their wings full.  :)

Do you all realize that in a few days we will be yelling at Trey and Princess - feed the little one, get them under you, Trey stop cleaning and pay attention to the kids, ack, one is straying.  Won't that be so cool cause they're ours ;D ;D :-* :-*

1553 hrs (local) - the sun has come back out, it is still pretty much windless but still a bit cool outside.  The ledge is drying out and Princess has been helping it along but doing some housekeeping in the dirt.  It has been an astoundingly placid day on the ledge and the couple of times I have seen eggs, they have all looked intact (no pips).  And she does not seem to be "listening" or "looking" at them, so the buns must still be baking.

1227 hrs (local) - okay, Princess is getting wet now, not very, I think I can see droplets on her back but she isn't drenched like the 13th.  The gravel is wet and I can see the road behind is wet and slick as well.  Not suppose to last long fortunately and total accumulation is tiny.  So just hyper-annoying ...

1149 hrs (local) - Princess is still cat-napping on the ledge, nothing much is disturbing her and fortunately, its too cold for flies at the moment.  Usually what happens is the few calm days we get, its hot and the flies come out to bug the peregrines while they are trapped on the eggs.  One positive result of our cooler spring!  We are in the midst of a light rainshower (heavy fog, light drizzle), but only sprinkles, can't even really see the gravel is damp.  Not expected to last long.  Princess is shaking her head at the moment, think the damp formed a droplet and ran down her forehead and onto her beak ... that's what happens when you nap with your face in the gravel ...
