Yes I saw that fluffy and had a brief moment of...Did she EAT a CHICK???

So odd that it is only Princess who bites the box. Is that biting/agression mainly a female thing while most males are more the 'housekeepers' like Trey? Or is it that they're more like people and have their own weird quirky isms no matter what the gender?

Hey AmyB, that's Princess with the oral fixation on the box - she nibbles on the wooden nestbox as well so no worries, its not a new aberation.  As for staying on the chicks, she sort of crouches over them, does't look that much different to us, but it does to the chicks  :D

First post of the year, maybe ever, can't remember... ;D

Anyway, just wanted to say how hilarious it was to turn on the cam just now and see white feathers stuck to Princess' ...or is it Trey?...face as she bites the heck out of the box. She is now having a heck of a time pushing gravel into the corner of the box...hmmm maybe that means it's Trey after all. Not sure how the chicks are managing to stay under there with all that moving around!

1445 hrs (local) - another mm and Princess' tail would actually be in the bin rather than on the bin.  Now that the chicks are a bit stronger, they move and get moved a bit with each feeding so more of a chance for Princess to get tucked down in the box like Trey does.

It occurs to me that Princess doesn't usually incubate/brood this much in a year.  I think she just might be more dominant at the nest/chicks than usual because of last year.  Its technically just a supposition, but though she can be bossy, she generally shares better with Trey than this.  Its not a concern, some females are like this, just interesting to see her be like this.

Shift change again as Princess just returned with a small meal and is feeding the chicks.  This time the three little faces are all visible, beaks reaching up and mom gently placing the food in each one.  ;D  Another oops as the one up front took a tumble but is back up and being fed.

Trey was just doing his housekeeping thing, tail in the air, chicks all exposed out the back  ;D  Oops, guess he realized that, turned around and shuggled down on them.  Now more housekeeping, gravel chewing.  He is certainly much more active than Princess when he is in the nestbox.  He seems to be in constant motion.

Princess made a quick exit from the nestbox allowing us to see the chick pile.  And now here comes Trey.

This time it doesn't appear that Princess is going to take a break.  She is right back down on the chicks. I wonder if the wind has something to do with that. Trey is certainly a great provider.

Another meal, only this time Princess has her back to us so there isn't much of a view of the chicks.   It must be quite breezy as the feathers from lunch are swirling around and flying out of the box.  Instant cleanup. ;D

...that was hilarious!  Trey looked like he was trying to force-feed the kids some bits and pieces lying around - mom came back in a BIG hurry  (she's thinking...WHAT is he trying to shove down their throats???)

Princess will leave him with the chicks later on when she's had enough of the whole thing.  He's more patient than she is and braver in fact.  He's always the first back to the nest after a human visit ...

As for feeding the chicks the "bits", he doesn't want to have to clean those up later (neat freak that he is), besides there is a 5 minute rule when it comes to dropped dead pigeon in a peregrine nest  ;)

My goodness, I can't believe how much they have grown in just two days  :o

Must be that good Winnipeg pigeon.  LOL  And, of course, good parents making sure everyone gets fed!!

Thanks for the photos Bev.  Much appreciated.
