chicks are all comatose in the poop-art area (at least I think that is all three).  Parent on ledge doing some preening, probably a lot happier since the shade covered the ledge!

haven't seen any flapping today but haven't had the window up front the whole time either...  (work, bah, work)

three chicks lined up looking out over the ledge it appears, and parent over by the drain cap in full peregrine-wind tunnel mode.

oops, one chick back down in poop-art for a nap, other two still watching the world.  :)

"It just looks really hot on the ledge - I'm sure it's much warmer there than at street level.  I have worked on my own roof and it gets BLAZING."

Maybe that's why the poop is white. LOL  My roof is white.

I wonder if the adults, instead of finding a cool place to sit, are trying to
show the chicks to spread their wings to keep cooler.

Now hey there's an idea....look at me....look at me...do this...do that....let me show you what I do  lol   :D
At any rate whatever they are doing, they will survive.  it's in their instinct as it was for the many before them.

so, this time the parent is well away from the chicks in cool-down mode.  I honestly think it's coincidental if a chick happens to get any shade from mom or dad right now.  Could be wrong, just trying to remember what I've read and reconcile with what I'm observing.

was cool watching the takeoff and flight below in the street - nice to have had the wide view when that happened.  ;D

Yea it do look like she was backing up over one of the babies to shield him/her. didn't last too long. The chick sure can move. All three are against the ledge over looking Smith Street.

I'm not sure they actually do try to shade the chicks any more or if that's just what it looks like.  I thought I read TPC saying that after the chicks can regulate on their own they are really on their own for that part.  We've certainly seen Trey in a different part of the ledge cooling off and the chicks are all elsewhere.

It just looks really hot on the ledge - I'm sure it's much warmer there than at street level.  I have worked on my own roof and it gets BLAZING.

Can't you just install a giant firefighter bounce blanket across the length of the street, just above the cars?  ;)

Question for TPC - I can't remember this. If a chick fledges and lands on a ledge or something lower down and can't figure out how to get back up to the nest ledge, do the parents feed it? Or does it just have to figure it out and that's how they learn?

She's a hot one out there already!  10:44 am...24 C or 75 F.  Princess is shading the little ones as best she can.  Thought she was munching on something too.  I bet she can't wait until after noon when the ledge starts to shade...ahhhh much better.
I too had a "hot bird" in the aviary yesterday.  Ricky was doing the exact same thing as Princess does with her wings- spreads them out a bit to "air condition" their body.   Luckily I can bring myn in or "hose/mist" them and they love love love it!

I think that is Princess in full-on peregrine a/c stance trying to cool off.  keeps turning, possibly to catch any breezes?

Will check the age counts and expert estimates on fledging dates to get the range and be sure before I post here.  I suspect that fleding should take place at earliest next week, though but I rather suspect the week after (week of July 7th) ...

Will also post information on what kind of help and when we will need help in the first week as soon as I've worked out some of the logistics in my head, so probably by the weekend.  And yes, I'll be taking names at that time.

hmmmm that's FOLK FESTIVAL week (July 8-12).  Am also volunteering there.

Mom (? not smaller than chicks) ventilating/cooling on the ledge with the chicks.  One has been trying to say hello, but parent doesn't seem sociable.  Grumpy in the heat?  It happens!

Breakfast time on the ledge.  Two busy eating with Mom/Dad and one looking on.  Maybe this is only a snack!!
