the females are larger than the males. they have more bulk to get up in the air.there is a lot of blood flowing through those feathers. we could see it yesterday at our banding. They need to do a lot fo flapping yet.
but back to  the female. If she fledges too soon she may end up on the ground. this could happen anyway. but TPC said Radisson was a great flyer from the start . I am going to look up something for yu and  post it

Why does the female fledge so much later that the males (hopefully)? How does she know to wait? Sorry - new at this and confused.

...deb, i'm not entirely sure - is it because the males are smaller and reach their full size faster?  Anybody?

Pchemist had a good answer to the question (as she so often does!) -- see reply #63.

Okay, little ones - I have to go cut the grass - no flap-offs while I'm gone. The weather info says thunderstorms for tomorrow - no, wait, that's Calgary (darn thing keeps jumping to Calgary, no matter how often I set the default for Winnipeg). But since we might have some as well, I'd better deal with the grass now. I'm assuming TPC will be posting some sort of schedule for us so we don't all end up down there at the same time.

Right now, with the two boys on the edge facing sister on the drain cover, it looks as though they're obediently listening to her lecture! Hope she's telling them to wait for her!

2 boys on the north edge, girl on the cover.
Any one else wonder if the girl misses bullying the boys off the cover?

Hey I can be down there  anytime helping with the watch.  I can do the early morning watch but would like it if I'm not sitting ALONE on a curb for it.  TPC has my info, but just letting you know.  Never thought of just heading down there today where it seems some of you are looking up or across???  I bet you'll be easy to spot.
