I sure hope not!  We'll know soon though, since changes happen very quickly with Phoebe's babies as we know!  Baby #1 also wasn't interested in eating the last time Phoebe offered, so hoo nose?!? ???

At least the #2 is now sitting alongside #1 like the other chicks have been.  Of course, now you can really see the difference in size  :(

I know this goes without saying but I guess chick #2 has to lift it's head and open it's beak for a feeding. Maybe it hurt it's neck when it fell out of the nest? :-\

Seems that Phoebe has tried unsuccessfully to feed #2, but he/she still seems strong, although smaller than #1.  That would be the case anyway, in spite of the trauma because of the later hatch...

As you say, KC, time will tell!  There are lots of folks cheering the little one on! :-* :-*

According to report on website, second chick appeared strong and healthy at dusk. So now we just wait and see how this unfolds. :-\

Looks as if the first chick just pulled the rest of the shell off the second chick while Phoebe left the nest. :) Second chick is still moving quite a bit. I can hear the sounds of crows but apparently the webcam host has put up some type of crow deterrent net.

OMG! Lots of drama at the hummingbird nest today! :o I missed it all. Had tons of errands to attend to all day. ::) Just checked and it looks as if the second chick is still moving, although seems to still be partially in the shell. It's head is moving around a bit. Mom just returned and fed the first chick but not the second one. Apparently, the second chick has not eaten yet. That is not a good sign. Maybe Phoebe knows it is not doing well? :-\ I do hope that it will survive, but I guess time will tell.

Baby #2 fell out of the nest and the host thought it was dead, but then saw a sign of life and put it back. :o  Might just be stunned, but hasn't eaten yet.  Lots of drama on this site!  Everyone's waiting to see if chick will survive! ???

the eye was just put back in the nest. There was movement so they but the egg back in, it was neat to watch used a little spoon.  Can only pray now that the baby will be okay.

...just got back from checking on phoebe, bad news...from what i can glean, phoebe somehow knocked the second egg out of the nest when she flew away - the chick did not survive.  So there will only be the one chick this time around...i also understand that most people on their chat think this will be her last clutch this season, apparently it's getting too hot there now...
