As of late today, I think there are four chicks and one egg. Congratulations to Diana and her mate!

The birds at this nest are both unbanded. The female is believed to be the same one as last year, who was named Diana. The male is new this year.

I hope this will be a successful year at the nest. Five eggs are being incubated.

2014 NESTING SEASON

Update from the folks in Kentucky ...

The falcons have returned for the 2014 nesting season. Soon, they will begin preparing the nest box, and we hope to see eggs laid in February or March 2014. Please check back for updates.

The male, identified as "Fabian" by his leg bands, was hatched in Cincinnati and likely has been at Mill Creek since 2007. The female, who has not been banded, has been at Mill Creek since 2006.

Louisville Gas and Electric Co. and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are unveiling the state’s first peregrine falcon web camera, located at LG&E’s Mill Creek Generating Station in a falcon nest box 300 feet above the ground.  The Mill Creek Generating Station is a coal-fired power plant owned and operated by Louisville Gas & Electric in the Kosmosdale neighbiorhood of Louisville, Kentucky.  It is located 20 miles southwest of Downtown Louisville.  (Coal-fired electrical plants are significant polluters however, at the Mill Creek Station, all units are fully scrubbed, meeting the Clean Air Act's Phase II standards for sulphur-dioxide emissions and more technology upgrades are planned)

I have never seen a name mentioned, but we could always call her "Milly".  Why "Milly" ?  Because the location of the nest is at the Mill Creek Generating Station.

Aww! Thanks RCF. Try as I might I haven't managed to catch the "bobbleheads" on camera.

Since late February, there's been a lot of activity within the nest box. The male, identified as "Fabian" by his leg bands, was hatched in Cincinnati and likely has been at Mill Creek since 2007. The female, who has not been banded, has been at Mill Creek since 2006.   The female falcon  has laid five eggs since February 21, and we expect the eggs to begin hatching some time during the last week of March.
