After their release, one of the chicks took off from the roof immediately. The other chick remained there, and as far as is known has not yet fledged.

The chick who fledged returned to rejoin her sibling. Denise Lewis from Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery has now confirmed that the fledglings are both girls. I think they are charming and beautiful.

The two Mutual of Omaha chicks have now been released.

I hope these two beautiful chicks/fledglings will stay safe from now on.

Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery had decided not to release the Mutual of Omaha chick until after July 4, which I think was a very good decision.

Meantime, her brother has now joined her at Fontenelle Forest. He took his first flight yesterday, was rescued and is in care with his sister. He is uninjured. He will be banded tomorrow morning, and both siblings will be released back at the nest around noon tomorrow.

From Mark Peterson, a video of the second chick's first flight:

Thank you for reporting this, Alison. I'm very thankful the chick wasn't injured and was rescued in time.

One of Orozco and Sierra's chicks was blown from the nest by a gust of wind, and has been rescued. She is now at Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery. The good news is that she is apparently okay, and will be banded before being released.

Orozco and Sierra's chicks have been doing well. They are now out of the nest, and running the ledge. I was hoping that they would have been banded, but that did not happen. Since the Woodmen chicks were banded, it seems a little odd that the Mutual chicks were not.

This short video of the very cute chicks was posted by Brittany McClelland.

New photos of the Mutual of Omaha family were posted an hour ago:

And one of the whole family, also posted by Mark Peterson:

The chicks look great, and it is so good to see Orozco. He is a very handsome tiercel.

Sierra's bands are still not readable, but I can't see any trace of purple on her right leg, which makes me think that is a silver band, which would make her 36/H, born in 2016 at the Iatan nest in Kansas City, Missouri.

After enhancing the photo in Photoshop, I can confirm that the bird does indeed have a black/blue band. There is not enough resolution to be able to read it. I am kind of hoping this might be the bird from the Genoa nest. Wish we had a photo showing the right leg; if the bird has a silver band on the right leg, that would be the Missouri bird.

I have only seen one other photo, which shows the two very cute chicks. This was posted on May 28 by Brittany McClelland, who was the person who first saw Chayton outside a window of the Mutual building last year.

Could very well be black/blue looking at the at photo.  If so, there are 3 Sierras that fit the bill  - a 2016 female from Platte MO, another 2016 female from Vernon, WI and a 2015 from Kewaunee, WI. All locations are close enough to be possible origins for this female and 2-3 years old is the right age to start nesting.  I'm assuming they have a band number for her since they have a name, hopefully at some point they will identify her point of origin.

All the others on record (at the moment) are from 1989 to 2008 with black/red and black/green bands.

Thanks for checking out on Orozco Alison - always nice to hear how Radisson grand-kids are doing!

2018 NESTING SEASON

I had not seen any news of Orozco since last year. I was wondering if something had happened to him, and if that was why Chayton had moved on to another nest.

However, it seems that Orozco and Chayton were not able to nest successfully last year, and perhaps that is why Chayton changed locations.

This year, Orozco has a new mate, named Sierra, and they are raising two chicks at the Mutual of Omaha nest site. I am so glad to know that he is alive and well and has chicks of his own.

The link below has a photo of, I believe, Sierra with the chicks. Possibly a black/blue band?
