NY / Poughkeepsie - Mid-Hudson Bridge - 2009-10

The cam has been down, but there is a video of a feeding from May 24. It is quite a long feeding, and later in the video one of the chicks goes around behind Mom, finds a piece of food and waddles off to try to self-feed. He/she did a pretty good job. The chicks are looking good.

Suddenly there is a small flurry of news stories about the Poughkeepsie site having two "newly hatched" chicks. Well, they are not newly hatched, and there were originally three chicks.

I checked this morning and noticed there were only two but I wasn't sure if I was checking the right nestbox.

Very sadly, it seems we have lost one precious little chick. I thought this was the case yesterday, but didn't want to say so at that point just in case.  

Today there are only two chicks in the nest box. Both of them look good.

Any more news of the littlest chick?

There are three chicks here now, but I'm worried about the littlest chick, who does not appear to be moving.

Can't tell how many chicks there are now. Last year there were four eggs, but only one hatched; this year they have at least two chicks.

Anyone else notice that the August 13 photo and the October 5 photos are almost exactly the same!!!  Check them out - the August photo is right before the October one ... talk about creatures of habit!!
