Thank you for arranging all the great care she had and for making the humane decision to send her on that final flight over the rainbow bridge.

RIP Princess and thank you for all the memories :-*

Post by: bev. on January 18, 2022, 18:31: I am heartbroken at this news. I have such a deep connection due to our Radisson. I had wondered often, if she managed to get to migration. She may just have not had the power. As Carly said: she was Queen of Winnipeg, not just the Radisson.

If you all had followed Radisson, since 2008 , like I have, you would see how alike these 2 were.

I am deeply sorry you had to make that decision. You always have their best interests at heart. Thankyou for the heartwarming post

Post by: MayShowers on January 19, 2022, 12:20: I am very saddened by the news. Princess was truly a remarkable girl, and she had a remarkable life. If she only knew how famous she was. This was her home and she came home to be with family and as sad as her passing was I’m glad she wasn’t alone in the end and we have peace of mind knowing that. Soar high Princess, thanks for the memories!

Post by: The Peregrine Chick on January 19, 2022, 16:37: Thanks folks, very kind of you. Dennis and I so very much enjoyed releasing her go this summer. We always enjoy releases but we must have stopped a half dozen times (maybe more) as we wove our way back out of OHM in case we could catch sight of her up overhead or skimming over the marsh or perched on one of the few high spots. We didn't, but we did keep trying to get one more glimpse. And when we hit the highway, we stopped one more time and the binoculars came out, just in case ...

Lots of other peregrines to watch of course, and we all have our favourites. She was definitely one of our favourites.

I also reread the summer chapter of her release in Oak Hammock, and then the tears came.

I always like to know that it is a resident bird before I shut the timer down ... I suspect it is one of ours because they were awfully comfortable on the box edge and I haven't had any other reports of birds at other nestsites, so I suspect, this bird arrived this morning and went straight to the Radisson.

There is one more egg Bally - my fault, I forgot to copy the tweet and photo here... we are expecting more eggs, I would think anytime now for egg 3 but haven't seen anything yet and it's hard to know how easy it will be with the this wknd's storm rolling in and because incubation will begin when it does arrive.

I couldn't even tell you if/how much water there is on the east ledge at the moment - the rain is falling and running over the clear protective dome and I can't get a clear view. Yes, Pip and Ella are much happier in the nestbox right now ... well, sound asleep right now ... ;)

With no only light rain falling on the camera dome, I could get a look at the nest ledge that was only a little blurry ... not blurry enough however to disguise the fact that there the whole ledge is completely full of water. You can see a stick/piece of wood in the bottom corner of the ledge - that floated from the top corner overnight.

Yup, very glad Pip & Ella chose the nestbox ...

When I tried to have a look around with the Sky Cam, couldn't see anything - too much rain, then hail, then sleet and finally snow and Dorothy-&-Toto winds ... :o

Crappy weather - I think who ever isn't incubating makes a beeline to wherever is their favourite spot to stay out of the rain, wind, cold ...
At the moment Pip is asleep/napping on the eggs and Ella is having a very thorough preen on the west side sign immediately below the nestbox ... likely because it isn't raining at the moment ...

Post by: The Peregrine Chick on May 23, 2022, 23:46: Just as an FYI - better to bookmark the FalconCam page on the website (CLICK HERE (http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/pefa/falconcam2022.html)) that way if/when the YouTubeLive link breaks (and it does), that is where the new link will be posted, you don't have to go hunting for it. And it lets us know how many folks are visiting the cam and when which could make a difference for future FalconCams. You can still go to the YouTube site from the FalconCam page, but this is the better page to bookmark.

We've used YouTubeLive for a few years now and it usually pretty stable. It isn't/wasn't designed to be "live" 24/7 for days and weeks, it was originally designed for concerts and the like, so a few hours with hundreds or thousands of viewers. One crash per season is usual and it is usually a few days after we start streaming which is why we try to go live before hatching begins so that the system has time to have a problem and then it usually runs smoothly without incident to the end of the season.

Not sure - it is very messy, could just be that it got pooped on and feathers & debris stuck or it could be that the egg cracked and feathers & debris stuck to fluids that leaked.
Time will tell - or the peregrines will roll it out from under them. If I had to guess, I think that if it doesn't hatch in the next couple of days, it likely won't. Wouldn't have thought that long except that Mistral took a week to hatch ...

Shaw was using older hardware last year and we thought we'd have problems. This year, they got new hardware so the stream would be more stable, but not so much. We have gone back to last year's equipment and fingers crossed we will be good (knock on wood) for the rest of the season (barring problems unrelated to the hardware of course)

Every day is an adventure with the peregrines!! ;D

Too young to tell. Oldest chick is only 8 days old today, youngest is just 5. Give them at least another 10 days and we might be able to guess at their gender.

yup, not looking forward to the weekend!
We plan to band next week - hopefully they won't have gotten too comfortable out on the balcony, makes it hard for us to access them safely!
So far haven't ever not banded chicks in the box, knock on wood, this year won't be the first time!

Yeah, tough to decide when to make the switch. The inside camera isn't affected by wind or weather and you get a great clear view ... as long as the chicks are there of course. 😁 The skycam is a great camera and we'll have 3 weeks at least with it though when the chicks get out of the nestbox, they can get behind the louvres now so they I'm afraid they won't be visible all the time and we may not even see them fledge - depends if they decide to fly from the box or ledge or from one of the roof openings out of range of the cams. I hope the chicks will tell us when it's time ... 😁 ::)

We had some very bad weather forecast so we didn't want to switch over before then. Weather looks better now - small rainfall amounts and more moderate temps - so we'll switch over shortly. Likely still lose sight of the kids when the sun hits the nestbox but with the not so brutal temps/humidity, perhaps not for quite so long each day.
