Title: Videos: Owls
Post by: The Peregrine Chick on November 07, 2011, 13:26
This is an AMAZING piece of video - all takes place in seconds but its filmed at 1000 frames per second so you can see every movement of every feather and muscle in flight.  Very very cool.

This is breathtaking!
I leapt back as those talons were extending!
On the second viewing, I watched the attentive ferocity in the eyes.
Such detail at this film speed.

Someone sent this to me a couple of weeks ago -- and I agree, it's totally amazing. BCBird, love that description -- "attentive ferocity". Wasn't it something to see the way the wing feathers flared in the final few seconds?

What an amazing video.  They obviously love to play together.  What is hanging from the owl's legs?  What kind of owl is it?

It's a Barn Owl and the cat and the owl would know each other I'm sure. The owl belongs to a falconer and it just happens that he/she owns a cat...the cat being attached to the leather things ( jesses) hanging down from the owls legs when it flew back and forth. That owl and owner would have had a real surprise if the cat got a good grab of the leather.

I loved watching the video you posted, gemcity! 8) It reminded me of a poem that I learned as a child, "The Owl & the Pussycat". It is obvious that those 2 are good friends. :)

Snowy Owl vs Peregrine Falcon

No one gets hurt and the owl is smart, s/he keeps his/her eyes on both birds so s/he doesn't get caught by sneak attack ... great video, wonderful watching the snowy up close and the peregrines are just annoying him in the hopes s/he'll leave ...

Video by Tom Johnson, taken in December 2013 on the New Jersey shoreline ...

Note: I've posted this in both the owl videos and peregrine videos threads ...

Injured Raven Flies Again Thanks to Unusual Feather Transplant

An injured bird that lost many of the feathers on its wings necessary for flight flies again thanks to an unusual surgery. Jen Markham has the remarkable story.

Perfect Day for Fishing Until You Accidentally Catch an Owl

I might be biased but seems to me this day was even better than a day fishing ... particularly since no one got hurt
