There was a very recent hatch here...new born chick under adult!! Sherco site
-
Feeding going on right now at Sherco...this little one is so cute!
-
Dad just brought in food and little chick is being fed by mom. Soo cute :-*
Couldn't see any pips on the remaining 3 eggs.
-
There are 3 chicks here now. The box seems to be more sheltered from the winds and with the hot weather there today the chicks have been uncovered for long periods. Last time I looked a parent was doing the wind tunnel, cool down thing. :D
-
So, I have to admit that I have been neglecting most of the Minnesota sites. It was heartattack time here today for me. One of the chicks ended up outside of the nestbox. Fortunately there is a lower ledge before the outside bar, not just thin air, and after many, many attempts, chick number 3 managed to get back into the box. Whew!

so many sites, you have to make choices on where to spend your valuable time ('specially if Da Man makes you WORK for a Living.... sheesh)
I admit it, I only regularly see Elk River and P&T. all others I go to if someone says something nifty is happening right then.
so I REALLY appreciate those who spend tons of time giving all the updates and especially those folks who take the time to post photos. THANK YOU!!! ;D :-* ;D

They are getting antsie here ;D

It was posted on the Elk River site that the female at Sherco is 30/B. This information was originally provided by Amy Ries, the webmaster at Raptor Resource, who is also very much involved in banding. Her post:
Babies are:
Female: 1687-30273 72/D b/r Sherfire
Male: 0816-38655 D/90 b/g Wander
Male: 0816-38654 D/89 b/g Breaker
Mom is 30/B
I hope the female at Sherco is 30/B. She is a most courageous falcon. The only thing is that I haven't seen a falcon with any missing talons when I have watched the Sherco nest this year, so I am somewhat puzzled. Both birds at the nest are banded; a couple of times I could almost read the bands.
Here are a couple of pics of the female. Unless there was a change at some stage, the falcon below is not 30/B: ???

Thanks for the photos. I wonder if she made a mistake, I'd sure love it to be our 30/B and if it isn't then wonder what happened to her and sure hope she is safe and alive somewhere :(

I hope so too, Carly.

I think this is the female at the nest today:

Definitely 2 sets of talons there. My poor 30/B, I wonder where she is and I hope she is safe. Maybe she's at another nest site but they got confused.

One beautiful falcon:

E-chup, E-chup, E-chup!!!
Falcon lingo.... :-* :-* :-*
-
It is a definite memory lane trip for me when these falcons, either together or individually come back to the nesting place and spend time. It is like going through memories that we have all experienced and want to savour. God bless them and hope they are back next year. Fly free! Of course, every falcon site gives me the same feeling. Especially my home town site of Winnipeg.
-
I still wonder where 30/B is; I hope she is okay. Meantime the falcons here continue to visit the nest. I think this is the female.

At least one adult is still visiting the Sherco nest box, spending several hours there today:

2010 NESTING SEASON
At least one of the adults is still visiting the nest. I think this is the female, but can't be sure. Both birds are banded black/green, but are not identified.
