The Fort St. Vrain eagle webcam is back online, with live streaming video and daily archives. Both eagles have been visiting the nest.
Earlier this year, the parents had three eaglets. When they were still fairly young, one of the parents disappeared for a while, and the remaining parent did not seem able to care for the eaglets during heavy rain. Very sadly, the following morning, all three eaglets were dead in the nest. We never did find out the cause. Later, the other parent reappeared.
I hope this season will be much more successful for them.

There was a whole lot of mantling going on this morning:

And this is why. One of the eagles had food -- maybe a rabbit -- and didn't want to share.

Both eagles spent time at the nest today, and tried to do some work on the nest in the snow:

A small visitor; I'm not sure what kind of bird this is:

The visitor looks like a starling to me.

The visitor looks like a starling to me.
Could very well be. I couldn't see enough detail to be sure, and the bird was only visible in one pic.
-
I can't be 100% positive but by the colours and the shape and the bit of tail I can see that's what I would call it :)
-
All I know is if I was that little black bird, I would be getting out of there pretty quick.
"Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night."

Both eagles were working on the nest today, refining the nest cup. I think we may have eggs here soon.

Congratulations to this pair as they also had to deal with snowstorms.
Mar.26, 2010 - Now we have two hatchlings in the nest at Fort St. Vrain. Both parents are involved in the frequent feedings.
