The time on posts seems to be in CST, not CDT. Can that get changed, so we have a more accurate read of how old a post is? Thanks. ;D
-
Hey Liz,
I'm replying to your post to check the time, though it was right on my last post here. The time according to two clocks is 1939 hrs.
Let's see how it looks ...
Tracy
-
Liz,
Could you please reply with the time on your computer ... my post showed me the right time ...
Tracy
-
Please ignore my earlier post (sort of) about this in another board on this forum. While the forum clock does appear not to be showing CDT, it is also true (and I should have remembered since I run a forum using this very same super-cool-free-nifty software) that you can set this under "profile/look and layout" in the sense you can set the offset time to reflect your local time.
click on profile on the menu above and fiddle around. it's fun! 8)

Tracy
Sorry Tracy, I missed this yesterday. Right now, it's 18:43. But I've since read Pchemist's instructions to change my time, so I will. I should have also thought of this, since I used to use a forum with the same 'problem'. But then that was four years ago and I am middle-aged -- memory ain't what it used to be!! lol
-
Interesting... now that I've changed my time, my posting time on the last one also changed to correct it. It did say 17:43 when I posted it.
Anyway, for anyone else who wants to change their time, it's under "Look and Layout Preferences". Just put + or - the number of hours you want to change the clock by, in the "Time Offset" area.
-
No probs everyone, its a new forum and there were bound to be a few things to tweak.
Just so you all know, I have set the server time to match Winnipeg local time, just so you know when you set your times. The easiest way is to press "auto detect". It should detect your local time and there you are. If you want to keep to Winnipeg time then put a zero in the offset.
Hmmm, did that description help or hurt ?
-
LOL. It helped, thanks. I'll reset so I actually feel like I'm in the same city!

It helps in one sense - that auto detect gets the "right" answer now. But it seems like Winnipeg should be 2 hours ahead, not one. I used to live in Omaha, Nebraska, USA and we joked about the directions to Winnipeg being "head north and stop when you get to Winnipeg" so it should be the same time zone. But I know I'm 2 hours off Omaha, so should be 2 hours off Winnipeg...
I'm confused. But I have the right time on my computer, which tells me I should go to sleep so I can wake up and go to work in the morning!
-
Hmmm... I'm still a little confused, too, because my 'auto detect' only adjusts for one hour and I know I am two hours behind Winnipeg. The times of the posts and my computer time still seem wonky. The Look and Layout also says that the current forum time is only 17:13 and that's only one hour ahead of me and my computer which read 4:13 or 16:13, but it should be two hours difference. I don't know if it all really matters, but I do find myself trying to calculate whether someone posted just now or two hours ago!
Ah well, what's actually happening under our parenting peregrines on the live video feed is what really matters to me, regardless of the time...
-
Going to try an experiment at 12 noon on Wednesday (so long as I don't get sucked into a meeting during lunch). I am going to reset the server time.
After 12:05 Winnipeg time, please reset your time on your Profile pages
Then post here on this thread
a) if your time works
b) what time you are setting your Profile to - your local time or Winnipeg local time
For reference, Winnipeg is CDT in Canada, -5 hours GMT/Zulu/UTC
-
Tracy I set the time to Wpg local time, autodetect. Should be 12:10pm....
From the Peregrine Chick: Thanks Ballywing - this reply shows 13:11 so, so far, without the offset for the server's time (EDT) we are one hour off. Hopefully we will hear from folks east and west to see how the post times track.
-
Hi Tracy,
Whatever you did with the time setting, I think it's worked! The local forum time shows 12:22 and it's now 10:22 here in BC. The autodetect also adjusted correctly this time and adjusted for 2 hours. So far, i'm still on BC time...either way I have to add or subtract two, so just knowing the forum time is correct is all I need!
Thanks for fixing the time problem! ;D
From the Peregrine Chick: Glad we have your time sorted Ballywing! Just have 50 members to go ;D
-
Our postings must have crossed paths. I've just seen your reply to Ballywing and maybe I jumped the gun. Before today, the current forum time was always one hour to early, according to my calculations of Wpg time...and now it's jumped to one hour too fast.
I've just double checked and the current forum time listed in the profile look and layout says 12:28. It's 10:28 here in BC.
Hope that helps somewhat.
Good luck!
From the Peregrine Chick: Enraptured, go to your profile, and click the auto-detect button. If the local time isn't correct, add or subtract the necessary hours to match the time where you are. Let me know if that works by posting here again. Thanks!
-
okay its 2:36 here in NB 2hours later than Winnipeg. Had to change my setting after you reset things Tracy. It was out by 1 hour. I knew it as soon as I went to my profile as it said 3hours so I just hit Autoset. and it changed that to 2hours time difference. Came back to forum and the time is showing my time for the posts, like I wanted it too. Perfect.
From the Peregrine Chick: Looks good here too so I think we have it!
-

I just checked again, Tracy, and the time is perfect for me locally, and for the autodetect offset, too. So I'm another one you can scratch off the list.
:)
From the Peregrine Chick: That's great Enraptured!. Another one down, 40 something to go! :)
-
Also worked for me on auto-detect. Thanks for solving it! 8)
-
Looks like we may have this one licked but will keep an eye on this thread to see if any troubles get reported!
Thanks everyone for helping out!
-
your time shows one hour ahead of Alberta time Is that right?.
From the Peregrine Chick: Yes, Alberta is MDT and Manitoba is CDT.
-
O.K.
I notice this morning our times were the same and I knew that wasn't right so everything is cool now
-
Sorry, I was at work at 12:05. But I changed mine to auto-detect a couple of hours ago, and it's now 20:38. Let's see...
-
Hi Tracy,
I didn't check my messages before I went to work. So I'm a little late for the test, but it appears my time on the profile is correct, so here goes it is currently 20:39 as I write this.
-
Perfect! Thanks, Tracy. ;D ;D
-
I would ask that everyone check their "local" time on their profiles ... I was checking something else and realized that my time (Winnipeg local) was showing as 1 hour later than it should on my profile page. Don't have any idea why this happened, and maybe it's just me, but thought I would alert you all to it.
To check your time:
- log in to the Forum
- click on the "profile" tab above
- check the time on your profile with the time on your computer (bottom right corner)
To correct your time:
- stay on your "profile" page
- click on "look and layout preferences" link on the left hand side of your screen
- you can hardcode the change, or click on "auto-detect" and it should correct it (it did for me)
If you are having problems with changing the time, post them here and we'll try to solve them ...

My local time is listed as 22:44, which it is.
My hours from forum time says -3, and I would think it should just be -2 from CST to PST?
-
CST, MST then PST, so perhaps -1 instead of -2 bcbird ...
... however, if you ain't broke maybe just let the wheel keep rolling right over ya .... ::)
-
Actually it is two hours, TPC, one to Edmonton (Hi Bev,) and another over to you in Winterpeg. As long as the wheel has winter tread, roll on.
-
Actually it is two hours, TPC, one to Edmonton (Hi Bev,) and another over to you in Winterpeg. As long as the wheel has winter tread, roll on.
Nuts ::) That's what I meant to say ....
-
Hey Tracy - the time is messed up again. Probably due to politicians mucking about with daylight savings time (haven't they done enough already?) - so right now the Forum thinks it's 1 hour ahead of me. Unless Winnipeg moved or Canada and the US are not in synch on DST (a possibility I only just now thought of) it should be 2 hours ahead.
I did have to go in and ask it to auto detect the time difference again (under profile, preferences stuff). For a while it thought I was three hours behind (and until I noticed that I thought some of you were up REALLY early!) 8)
-
I just checked my preferences (I am in Winnipeg) and it shows the local time as 1432 when it is really 1532 so I don't think it's you! You might occasionally see really early posts from me as I do get up and check out the Netherlands between 0400 and 0500 when I get up for work.
-
If because of world leaders playing games with daylight savings time (or for those of you in Sask & Arizona that decry the practice ;)) you can update your time by clicking on Profile on the top toolbar, then Look & Layout Preferences and then changing the offset for your area. If you don't know it, click on auto detect. Either way, don't forget to click on the Change Profile button at the bottom of the page. Then check to see that your time is correct by clicking on the Profile link again and the Local Time should be correct. If it isn't then you will definitely have to adjust manually - repeat steps above but do not click on auto-detect, just enter how many hours need to be added (+2) or subtracted (-2) to correct your time.
Clear as mud? If you are still having problems, send me a pm with your geographic location and I can manually change it from my end. But please do try first folks, we have to do these things twice a year, perhaps 4 times if politicians start playing with the clocks again and I just won't have enough time to change all your clocks and save the peregrines from extinction ;D
-
Okay, now I get it. Even though I live in the 'Peg I should just update my own profile when the time changes. Easy to remember - change batteries in smoke detectors, update forum profile. Geez, my head is really in the clouds today! (Too much pyrogies and ham yesterday)
-
I followed the instructions as stated and asked for auto check than correct profile. I am now on the correct time here in Wpg.
Thanks Tracy, always something new...
-
While we're confused......and I feel bad asking as I know this has been answered before.....why does the time on the forum read 7:14am when it is actually 8:14am?? :-\
-
You need to change your time Irenekl - check out the notes from earlier on in this thread for instructions on how to do it ... if you still have problems, let me know and I can take care of it from my end if you'd like!
-
Here is some information for the newer members who have asked questions about the time that shows when posting to the forum. This might answer your questions. :)

;) By the way has anyone else noted the time clock is an hour behind? Not that the chicks would care,I'm sure it's always lunchtime.
-
That'd be in Torontonian time...1 hour ahead of Winnipeg. nest pas ???

check out http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/projects/pfrp/forum/programs/index.php/topic,612.0.html (http://www.species-at-risk.mb.ca/projects/pfrp/forum/programs/index.php/topic,612.0.html)
the clock sometimes has a mind of its own and you have to go reset yours. mine is showing correctly right now (for my local time). And TPC will no doubt move all of these to the "technical questions" area at some point... (do I hear a shovel?)
-
why thank you Pchemist. that was a most kind and informed answer to a NEWBIE post. How very considerate of you.. ( yea.. sarcastic i know.. ;))
-
now now, Loriann. TCONA asked something I asked when I was young too. and with all the various threads I know it can be hard to find stuff - I just happened to know where that one was so it was easy for me.
TCONA, if you have any trouble fixing your clock, just ask. Don't mind Loriann. she's old and grumpy. ;)
-
especially take out the shovel for my last comment. :-X TAH DAH...the techlingo was to the point and easy to administer for the necessaries! just did myn...and truly I NEVER even noticed before. but that's a me usually thing!
-
lol pchemist . who ya calling grumpy ! lol :o
-
Okay, I just check my profile and my time shows correct, which means the time on all the posts etc will be auto-corrected for my time zone. I'm in Winnipeg obviously which is CDT. The Forum is hosted on a computer in Toronto so, if you are an hour out folks, check your profile and "auto-correct" your time (check out Pchemist's post below for the link on the steps). If your time is still not correct, you can also manually change the offset (i.e., Winnipeg is Toronto time + 1 hour so I would enter +1). If all else fails, send me a pm with your location (city & province/state) and I will manual change your time at my end and we will see if that works ....
-
BECAUSE TORONTO IS THE CENTRE OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE ! ;D
-
no, Loriann. As my father and de-facto can tell you, it's all about me. ;D
always. unless it's about my mother. and even on mother's day I managed to make it all about me. 8) (that was one funny card!)
-
Heidi and I are doing some redecorating ....
Hold on to your beverages folks we are relocating to the Technical Questions thread and if there is already a "time" or "clock" thread, we will be merging ....
Number One, make it so ...

I was born in TO, lived there till I was 13 then moved here- the best thing that ever happened to me. ( well, there's others but Heidi gives me the willies ) :-X
Girls were no -count in my family so it was never about me.
( hey, why does TPC think we are having beverages, it's only 2 pm for gawds sake.)
-
Centre of the universe??? I always heard it referred to as the "Navel of the Universe"...
-
lol Jadoo, now you're gonna get Loriann going. hold on tight ;D ;D
-
...just like a ride at the Ex...
-
nah.. i'm in Mississauga which is west of the city... we're actually the centre of the known universe, we just don't like to brag about it like T.O. does.. lol..

Deluded easterners ::) must be that smog corroding their geographic abilities to see that Winnipeg is the centre of All .... Manitoba does mean "where the [great] spirit lives" and where else but in the centre (via the navel of course) would the spirit live ?

anything East of Yonge street is OUT EAST. anything WEST of Yonge street is OUT WEST !.. I don't make the rules.. lol

Keep going guys, this is getting good ;D

anything East of Yonge street is OUT EAST. anything WEST of Yonge street is OUT WEST !.. I don't make the rules.. lol
Same rules that put Upper Canada south of Lower Canada ? ::)
-
you have nooooo idea how much I'm enjoying this ;D ;D
-
Guess I will weigh in my two cents, the center of canada is the border of Manitoba and Ontario lol Ontario on out to the Maritimes is East. Anything west of The Manitoba border is Out West.
-
Okay...I may not have the exact location of the center of the universe BUT.....I do have the exact center of Canada... ;D ;D

Which province is it in Ontario or Manitoba?
-
Which province is it in Ontario or Manitoba?
Manitoba - its just a few kilometres west of Winnipeg on Highway 1
-
Well there you have it, it is in Manitoba, west of Winnipeg so anything east of Landmark is eastern Canada, and anything west of Landmark is western Canada
-
Gotta tell y'all that I work for the province and am really familiar with land. What Tracy was referring to is called the principal meridian, not to be confused with the prime meridian which is in England.
The principal meridian is the center of Manitoba, which also happens to be the centre of Canada. There is actually a monument ( stone cairn ) marking the site on the Trans Canada hwy, just west of Headingly. And if you're observant, you will notice that the intersecting roads to the TCH are, for example 2W, 3W, 4W. which means 2 miles west of the pm, 3 miles west of the pm. The same thing goes for east of the PM except that the description read 2E, 3E, you get the drift. I could go on and on. but ( big yawn by y'all, ) it's only interesting for those who work with it or those that actually own the land.
-
anything East of Yonge street is OUT EAST. anything WEST of Yonge street is OUT WEST !.. I don't make the rules.. lol
Same rules that put Upper Canada south of Lower Canada ? ::)
there was beer involved.
-
Sheesh, I just posted a very informative, enlightening blurb on a subject that I am kinda smart about and all ya can say is beer ::) ::) :P
-
When I zoomed out to make sure of my bearings, I thought Landmark was South East of Winnipeg. Do I have the map upside down?
-
nope ... you got your bearings right... Landmark is south east of winnipeg.
-
Sorry, but Landmark, Manitoba is SE of wpg.
The sign on Hwy. #1 shows as "The Longitudinal Centre of Canada @
96.48.35.
http://wikimapia.org/51612/Center-Of-Canada (http://wikimapia.org/51612/Center-Of-Canada)

So, the centre of Canada is a bit East of Winnipeg?
-
Sheesh, I just posted a very informative, enlightening blurb on a subject that I am kinda smart about and all ya can say is beer ::) ::) :P
I know, LOL but isn't this fun though ;)
-
I know for sure that I am West!
-
I stand corrected. Sorta lol
-
Sorry, I was thinking of the meridian marker ....
"... and continue west, keeping watch on the north side for the cairn marking the Prime Meridian. This is the base line from which the survey of the whole of Western Manitoba begins. The orderly division of the vast prairie is measured out in square miles. Only in the older settlements does the system of river lots prevail. This includes the whole of Highway 26 from Winnipeg to Portage which was settled before Manitoba joined confederation in 1870. Along the Assiniboine the lots are designated by number within the original parishes. "
-
That is so cool, the history we get even in the Peregrine forum lol
-
The history forum...kinda has a good ring to it :D
-
I know for sure that I am West!
me too! look! it's even in the very name of where I live!!!
-
hmmm...me too, Westwood (area in Winnipeg) :D
-
I notice that whenever I post an item on a board, the time of the post reads an hour earlier than the actual time that it is here in Winnipeg, where I m located. I have tried to correct this by going into my profile and following the instructions that have been posted by TPC on this board, but to no avail. Can anyone help me with this?
-
Did you put the + sign in front of the 1?
-
Ah ha! No, I didn't. Small but important detail. I will try that. Thanks bccs!
-
lol Don't thank me till it works.
-
Okay now, I think that worked, bccs. Thanks!
-
My pleasure Kinderchick.
-
Tracy, the forum clock seems to think you're only one hour ahead of me, and I know you're two hours ahead.... sorry to be a pest. :) my offset gets my clock correct, but that means yours is wrong. and it seems to think you're in mountain time. ::)
-
Hmmm, when I look at my profile, my time is correct ... it is 0010 hrs here ...
Will have to think about why you (Pacific Time) should be showing an hour off for me in Central .... will let you know what I come up with .... ???
-
not a huge deal, as my clock shows correct in terms of my time, just says the forum time is not what I know it to be.
but weeeeeeeeird.
here is what I see right now:
Current forum time: June 16, 2009, 23:14
-
Especially since the Forum is actually hosted in Toronto - EST - one time zone east of me!
-
well, yeah! that's part of what was so very odd!
-
I've noticed the same as Pchemist, and wondered if it has been since the spring time change. It has definitely been awhile, and I also adjusted the offset to -1 so my time is correct for me.
-
Especially since the Forum is actually hosted in Toronto - EST - one time zone east of me!
T 0 R O N T O : CENTER OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE :P

You are such a brat Loriann. ;D

again ~~~~~ I N N O C E N T !!!!!! ;D

No you are, you really really are. ;)

T 0 R O N T O : CENTER OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE :P
you're just terrible Loriann ;)
-
BOT - look at the time! :o
-
The time passes very quickly when your reading posts and posting....I can't get over it sometimes!!! I love being part of this forum!!!! ;D
-
I give up and hate to be a pain & post here but I can't find the 'Look & Layout' bit...?? ??? ???
-
Click on Profile, then Look and Layout.
-
Go into your profile, it's on the left near the middle. Click on that and at the right side you'll see the time. Change it to +1, be sure to put the + sign there, click on change at the bottom and there ya are, all done. ;D
-
Ack.!!...But there is nothing that says Look & Layout in my Profile - and there is nowhere that I can put a + or change anything?? :'(
-
Hmmm, I've heard of that before, best to give tracy a pm, something on her end I think.
-
Will do, merci buckets bccs! :D
-

-

1. Profile
2. under Modify Profile (its onthe left hand side)
3. click on Look and Layout Preferences.
4. where it says Time Offset - click on auto-detect.
The forum time has been set to Winnipeg time, so the auto-detect link should check your time against the forum time.
If you do still have problems, let me know, I can manually change your time but its easier if you do it as you should check it when we go on/off Daylight Savings just to be sure.
-
Under Modify Profile, all it says is 'Account Related Settings' - there is no Look & Layout anywhere? :(
-

Now this is very strange Ballywing, I have a buddy who is also an old bird phanatic who can see it ... will see what's wierdy about your permissions .... want me to change it in the meantime?
-
Sure thing, thanks TPC! :-*
-
Hey this is fun, it's like watching tennis.
-
Game, set and match to the forum clock!! ::)
-
Your time should be set correctly ... check the time on your last post and see if it is within a couple of minutes of your current time ...
(I always get this wrong so if it isn't, no worries, I do know what to do ;))
-
Hey this is fun, it's like watching tennis.
Yup, but we know the outcome here bcbird, TPC will win and ballywing will have all the profile stuff where it belongs ;D
-
LOL... :-[ - Well I appreciate everyone's help but the Look & Layout were seriously not there...clock is ok now though! :)
-
will see what's wierdy about your permissions
where have i heard THAT before? ( ** lock, delete... lock.. ;)
-
LOL... :-[ - Well I appreciate everyone's help but the Look & Layout were seriously not there...clock is ok now though! :)
No worries, just a bit of a puzzle for me to solve at some point - if its happened to you, then chances are its happened to someone else as well ...
-
Good thing we needed a time filler anyway while waiting for His Highness to show up! ;D
-
It happened to Allikat late last year, I saw it when she was logged in and she also didn't have the same options/headings/permissions that I have.
-
Good thing we needed a time filler anyway while waiting for His Highness to show up! ;D
Hmmmm, yesterday I was killing time with my vertical jiggle problem solving. Do you think TPC is setting up little excitements to distract us, day by day?
-
Hmmmmmmm - interesting theory! And it works!~ ....for a bit. :-\
-
She is sly and crafty, wouldn't put it past her. ::)
But why would she commit such a dastardly deed to ballywing, one of the few that has never been in trouble??
-
;D
-
Under Modify Profile, all it says is 'Account Related Settings' - there is no Look & Layout anywhere? :(
Now this is very strange Ballywing, I have a buddy who is also an old bird phanatic who can see it ... will see what's wierdy about your permissions .... want me to change it in the meantime?
I have the same thing as Ballywing-it just says account related settings. I used to be able to change the time but can't now
-
I had the same problem for quite some time - it's changed now, but still can't get it to say I live in Winnipeg. Haven't tried anyplace else, maybe mine thinks I'm somewheres other than here.
-
Found "Lock and Layout" in my Profile. Think I better check everything out on that page so I will be more informed about things in case I need to use it. I don't usually read "directions" until I get in a pickle!
-
hmmmmm ..... *wanders back off into permissions purgatory*
-
Try it now Ballywing & BCF .... ???
-
Now I can see all the profile options like I used to and was able to change to the current time!
-
Hmmm, I've heard of that before, best to give tracy a pm, something on her end I think.
Hmmm, does bccs know how to call it, or what!!!!!! :D
-
nah ::)
-
bahahahaha, another eyeroll, gotta get at least on of those per day ;D
-
hmmmmm ..... *wanders back off into permissions purgatory*
Wow! "permissions purgatory" Now that's an expression that might be useful when an offspring is asking for something.
"You'll just need to wait, dear. I have to check down in Permissions Purgatory to see if anything is available today.
-
hmmmmm ..... *wanders back off into permissions purgatory*
and another one for the dictionary..
-
Got it!!! - All fixed - Thanks TPC!!! :-*
-
I would ask that everyone check their "local" time on their profiles ... I was checking something else and realized that my time (Winnipeg local) was showing as 1 hour later than it should on my profile page. Don't have any idea why this happened, and maybe it's just me, but thought I would alert you all to it.
I was just noticing that current posts were also registering as one hour later than the actual Winnipeg time. So I attempted to follow your instructions, TPC, and have tried to correct this on my profile page. I put a "0" in the forum default box. Seems to be working so far. Hope I have done the right thing to correct it. :-\
-
You can put a zero or you can click on the "auto-detect" link, both should work. And so long as the time is right when you look at your post, that's all that really matters :)
-

Thanks, TPC, looks fine to me now. :)
-
Daylight Savings Time folks - which means everyone should go into their Profile page and update their time.
How to do this you ask?
1. go to the "Profile" link at the top of this page
2. click on "Look and Layout Preferences" link on the left hand side of the screen
