People do like to feed birds, ducks and geese. I know for birds you put bird seed in feeders but for ducks and geese what would the recommended food be for the people that insist on feeding them?
I think they are on to us!LOL, Elaine! You may be right! ;) The Kinderchicklets took turns watching them nearly all morning today! Gearing up for "falcon watch"! ;D
Appears to be 8 eggs! The nest is uncovered right now. The nest is actually quite deep. There are times that it shows only seven. Who knew! :o
If it still does not work for you, it might be because there are so many people on this site right now; this is the Journal's most popular web site.
I saw her roost patch, clear as day...
Ahhrgh, I meant to say brood patch. :-[ :-[ :-[

Ah ha! You just answered my question, moka! :D
Keep in mind that poor mother goose is a waterfowl species ... ;) http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Canada_Goose/lifehistory
If Mom takes care of all of that, surely that "husband" of hers could protect her a bit better than he has been doing!
...I have not seen anything on the Goose website to indicate that this is unusual behavior for the geese, so I am thinking she will return shortly.
Look - she's back!!!
There were some comments stating that only 6 eggs are seen - but I haven't caught her off the eggs . . and the comments about 6 eggs are all from anonymous sources.Early last week, I did see 8 eggs and even thought I might have seen 9. But the last time I observed her up and turning her eggs, which was sometime yesterday, I did count 7 eggs. So I'm not really sure now, how many eggs she still has. :-\
Does anyone know why Mr. Goose didn't jump in and put that neck pecker in his place? I would have thought they'd have been more protective of their mate & nest. (but I clearly know nothing about the nesting habits of Geese)And I have no idea why Papa Goose did not intervene when when "neck pecker" was around, although I haven't seen "neck pecker" around for a few days. Maybe his mate has eggs that have begun to hatch over in their nest? :-\
This has been quite the emotional rollercoaster. We don't know what's going to happen, but we share your concern about whether the eggs are viable, given how long she has been leaving them uncovered. We're leaving the camera on for now, since she keeps coming back. Thank you for your kind words. Thanks too to those who have shared links to other birdcams.
...When I watched the mom and baby get ready to leave it seemed that she was in a quandry as to whether to stay or go...
Loved the video.Yes! And I had no idea it was up sooooo high! I wonder how the gosling got down? :-\
I had not realized the nest was in a bale that seemed to be inside a structure?

We do indeed plan to run the goosecam again this year. If all goes well, it will be better than ever, as we have a new camera that (we hope!) will show her at night as well as during the day. It all depends, of course, on whether the goose comes back. Last year, we started the goosecam around the middle of April, so that's the timing I would expect again this year. But Mother Nature and mother geese are unpredictable, so we'll just have to see.
Thanks for your interest, and we'll keep you posted!
...I do hope our goose and the other geese are not scared off by all the aggression and hostility from last year; all those foot-stomping, testerone-filled, irate ganders were a sight to see...Well, actually Elaine, I have to admit that some of the gander aggression was upsetting for my Kinderchicklets to see. When that did occur, I just changed the "channel", or webcam, so to speak, to Phoebe the Hummingbird or some other bird that wasn't attacking or being attacked! ::) :P And of course, the San Diego Zoo polar bears were usually well behaved, although not all of the time! ;) LOL.
...Goslings are very cute, so I am looking forward to the big event.Yes, they are adorable and within a day or two after they hatch, off they go!
The Goose Cam is back up and running, with mom, Patience, sitting on five eggs...
A wicked windstorm destroyed the nest and crushed the five eggs today... :'(
Mother Goose Patience has laid another clutch of eggs on another hay bale, one that is more secure, so I hope everything will work out for her this time...I am so glad to hear this, Elaine. Thanks for the heads up. :-* I hope she is successful this time.
I think that it was May 23, Kinderchick. At least, that is when Patience reported her new batch of eggs on her Twitter account. Of course, that is when the Edmonton Journal guy noticed the eggs, so she could have been sitting on them for a few days already. Anyway, I think that the chicks should arrive about June 21.
