2013 NESTING SEASON
First egg today for this site.
Kinderchick:
2012 NESTING SEASON
4 eggs laid at this nestsite, with a successful hatch last week. However, some sad news about the 1st egg. :'(
Info from the website...
SW and Boomer welcomed their first chick of the 2012 season this morning, Thursday, April 19, 2012.
This joyous news is tempered with sadness however. The first egg to pip ran into difficulty hatching. Instead of scoring the inside of the blunt end of the eggshell, it excavated along the flank of the egg. All of its work could not force open a avenue for its escape and after struggling for two days, it has apparently died, stuck to the membrane within its shell.
Linder:
It was banding day for the 3 chicks today. A report from the BCAW site:
Posted by bobbytimewarp who attended the banding,
"An event downtown caused DOW and others to run a bit late..
the wire to the drawbridge is no longer there, so they got the chicks out with it down..
actually, i thought SW was a bit more relaxed with the drawbridge down..
boomer brought food into the nest and SW was about to feed when they opened the windows.. they didn't want a feeding to occur..
bands are black over red..
2 females, 1 male..
76/D is female "Soarer"
75/D is female "Sabby"
32/B is the male "Spark"
females were named by Deb Mathies' kids and Mike and Christa's John named Spark..."
