One adult almost asleep at the nest box for a little while today. Looks like 19/K:

I was just about to close out of this site when both adults showed up. I had been wondering which parent I was watching earlier, but now I realize it was 19/K. Alley is on top of the nest box. She has a more pronounced malar stripe than 19/K. They left together.

There were at least four different visits today:

Second visit: I think this is a juvie.

Third:

Fourth: I think this is also a juvie.

There was a dark shape perched on the far side of the nest box earlier. This turned out to be one of the juvies. I'm always happy to see them visiting the nest.

Haven't seen any of the juvies today, but Alley and 19/K were both in the nest box.

"Bow lower":

One left, and one stayed (still there as I am posting this):

The box the birds are using this year (and have used in previous years) is being taken down at the end of this season so the Nebraska folks have installed a new nestbox for Alley & 19/K to get used to.  They didn't choose the new one this year, but they won't have an option next year.  I haven't seen any images or description of the new box, but it might be that it has easier access for both people and the webcam ...
This is from TPC at the beginning of the season.  At the time they didn't know where the new box was located.

This nest box has had a lot of traffic today. One of the parents came back:

Then, another juvie arrived. I think this is a different juvie - one of the big girls this time. She stayed for quite a while.

I looked away from the cam for a few minutes, and when I looked again, something was different. Now there was a juvie in the nest:

Alley and 19/K do like this nestbox, going to be interesting to see what they think of the new one next year!  And it will be interesting to see the "new" view!

Haven't seen any of the juvies for a few days, but both parents were at the nest today, strengthening their pair bond. Since the nest was in deep shade, they are not very easy to see.

Was wondering if there's any news of that juvie that didn't look well in the photos, Alison?

I haven't heard anything, Kinderchick. I think he is probably okay. If he were ill he would be more likely to be fluffed out, and he would look less alert; his eyes would be less bright. This little guy looked alert and interested in what was going on. I think, hopefully, he just needed a meal. Heat might also have been a factor - it was 85 degrees in Lincoln that day, which would make it more likely for him to hold his feathers tight against his body.  I didn't see any juvies at the nest today, but as LinderLou mentioned, a parent spent several hours there:

My goodness, that is a heatwave!  :P No wonder he looked the way he did! Thanks for the reassurance, Alison! :D

Checked the site out around 2:50 pm and saw a parent in the nest. Looked the one you showed the other day, Alley. Was sitting on the nest ledge and just looking around. At one point head was turning every which way, so don't know what it was watching. It was still there at 3:30pm.

Even in the last photo, hard to tell, looks like alot of space between his talons and his breast/belly. Still will wait and see what happens and am sure that his family will see to his needs if required. Keep us posted with pics if you can. Thanks so much.

From your photos, Alison, it's difficult to tell if that juvie is ill or not. But I'm sure one of the parents would feed him, if he was unable to hunt. Please keep us posted, if you hear anything.

Saw your pics on the Woodmen's as well and it could well be the cam. Too bad you only had the two pics of the Lincoln one from the same angle. Had a look on the cam today but didn't see anyone, not surprising, but wouldn't know who is who anyway. Anyway tks for checking in.

LinderLou, I had actually saved nine pics of the juvie, who just didn't move much while he was at the nest. I only posted a couple because they were so similar, but here are more of the pics in case they might give a better idea:

So that second photo is a parent also?  Well then now I don't feel so bad as she looks long and lean in that second shot...actually she looks like that juvie..the body shape I mean and she's the female so if the cam can make her look that slim...maybe it did so for the boy??!

Yes, the photos are all of the same bird - I watched her as she stayed for a while, looking quite contented. I don't know for sure if this is Alley - TPC knows better than I do which parent is which.

I'll be posting some pics of a Woodmen juvie - and in certain pics he/she looked very slim too.

Here are some pics of the parent who visited this afternoon. I think this might be Alley - just a guess, but the pics I posted previously of a parent seemed to show a bird with a whiter bib. As long as the parents are around, I think the juvies should be okay.

Has anybody heard anymore about this peregrine? Certainly hope that it has gotten some kind of help and is doing better.

I didn't see any of the falcons visiting the nest yesterday. I think this little guy may be okay, because we know the parents are still in the nest area, and he has the sense to be there too. I think they will feed him if he asks. I don't know if the cam plays any part in making him look so thin, but it's possible. Haven't seen any juvies today, but a parent was there for a while a little earlier. Will post the pics a little later.

He could have taken off on his own for awhile or he could be sick...hard to say but he doesn't look good.  Maybe that's why he came home now, hopefully if it's just a matter of hard luck, they might help him out if they see he's not doing well.   Could be he hate a bad pigeon too, I wish someone there was watching over them and could keep an eye out for him.  It's heartbreaking to look at him  :'( :'(

If he is having a hard time hunting, wouldn't the parent(s) come out and try to show him how? Or is it a health problem, cause this bird doesn't look healthly? On other sites have seen parents feeding their fledgings for a bit or once or twice after fledging, (probably feeding for a couple of months till they could hunt)don't understand why this one is so thin. Not a pretty sight.

I don't know - the other pics I have posted of juvies don't look like that. All the pics I saved of this little guy looked this way - he stayed for a little while. I do think this is one of the males, and I believe the other pics of juvies have been of the two females.

I haven't seen anything but an empty nest box for the past two days.

Found a story on the banding at this nest, which must have happened some time back although the story was dated June 25.

The chicks were named for Nebraska rivers; the two females were named Nemaha and Niobrara, and the two males were named Platte and Calamus.

There are a few pics with the article:

They may have walked farther than the roof. The nest box is still empty, and no sign of any of the chicks on the roof either.

I don't know whether they have actually fledged. When I first checked today, the nest box was empty: then there was one in the box and one flapping on top of it. A little later I found three chicks in the nest box:

At the moment the nest box is empty again.

This nest box really made me nervous, but I didn't realize that could get out of the back side of it and onto some type of roof. They will definitely wing flapping room up there, if they don't try it all at once. Just observed 3 out of the nest on roof and one still in nest.

Not watching this closely, Alison - but I think I see 3 chicks above the nestbox in the first pic you posted, and four inside in the second one.  I'm going to assume all is well and they are progressing nicely.  ;D

Does anyone know what happened with the chick who was out of the nest box? I haven't been online for a few days, and when I checked the site this evening, I could only see one chick in the box at first. Then I realized there were two more visible above the box:

A little later there were at least three. I can't really see the fourth one at the back clearly enough to tell whether this is a chick or an adult:

First...a big shout out to Bev. for posting the Edmonton pics...I've just been so caught up in the Columbus and Harrisburg nests that there has been little time for anything else....but I just had to post this pic from this morning...this nest makes me sooooooo nervous...but, I think they have solved their leg room issue...

I wonder what the new condo looks like - I hope Alley and her mate will accept it. While Mariah didn't accept her new nest box location, although the nest box was the same one she had used all these years, the Jersey City falcons accepted the new nest box provided for them this year as soon as it was installed (they have three chicks in the nest).

It will be interesting to see if Alley will like the new "condo" - she's been here for 4 years now I believe ... Mariah in New York wasn't enamoured of her new accommodations this year ...

These chicks have no ledge room. Is it as small as it looks, and why would a falcon want to nest there, as they say, couldn't swing a cat around, not that I would. If I am remembering right this box won't be there next year. I guess if other nests have worked there, why not again, just find it amazing!

The four chubby chicks this afternoon:

I just noticed that there is a "Name the Chicks" contest. Since Alley is from Winnipeg, maybe people from Winnipeg should name her chicks?

well. as we (not me, but someone) used to say in the Deep South:

"I'm fuller than a tick on a fat hound dog."

that's what those full crops remind me of.  :D

It's good to see Alley with four babies. They are being well fed - two feedings within about 40 minutes this evening:

Do you know what the temperature was there when the photo was taken Alison?  The parents do that not so much as mantling (especially with a roof on their box) but usually as a sun-shade (not necessary here) or to catch & funnel air over the chicks - peregrine a/c if you like ...

The pics I posted were saved at (from the top): 19:21 p.m., 19:20 p.m., 20:10 p.m. and 20:27 p.m., Lincoln time. I cropped them rather than reduce them in size in order to show the babies better, but I still have the originals.

According to weather.com, the high in Lincoln on May 18 was 91 degrees F, and the low was 60 degrees F. There was no precipitation, and it was windy.

Hope this helps.

I can't say for certain, but the high that day was around 30C, and even late into the evening (when it would have been dark, so this is before then) it was still 25C.  so the a/c may have been needed....

According to the website, as of May 16 there are four chicks here! The cam was down earlier; these pics are from last night. I think all four chicks are visible. I love the way Alley is mantling her babies in the second last pic.

'Fraid I haven't heard yet where the new nestbox is located, but I'm sure I will get a reply to my email eventually, the Lincoln folks are usually pretty good about getting back to me but sometimes it takes a while.  At this time of the year, I can understand that they are swamped with emails & work.

Incubation is continuing; it's difficult to see what is happening in this nest. I wonder where the new nest box which has been provided is located.

I hope this pair will have a very successful year.

Just to start us off right, Alley & 19/K are back in the "old" nestbox on the State Capitol Building in Lincoln, Nebraska.  This is their fourth year together and everyone has high hopes as they lost all their chicks last year - at about the same age as the Radisson chicks when they were lost.  On April 3rd there was 1 egg in the box, so if all has gone well, there could be up to 4 by now.
So I take it the camera isn't up? Any information is greatly appreciated
OOPS just saw that it was put up
