bev.:
I am exhausted right now and by tomorrow you will know why.
I just got off the phone with one of our biologists and the banding will be next Thursday morning. He thought the chicks were 3.5 weeks old but when I said they would be 19 days old and one 18 days ,he thinks their legs will be big enough to tell the sex.
And I am invited and I get to put the colored tape on their bands
Yes folks we will have colored tape over the bands. I would imagine 4 different colors.
And I mentioned about Elk River and a few other nests and the one in Ontario with the female chick that died with the fungus . He was going to check out Elk river
He said they should have been able to tell at banding and they will be checking ours and he will bring medication with him and maybe one for fungus also. He said because our male prefers Franklin gulls it is not usually a problem. But they will check what remains are in the nest also.
I will post picutres later but I need a bit of rest here.

Basically, there is not necessarily anything wrong with the chick just because it likes to be a bit solitary ...

That little one sure does spend a lot of time off on it's own. I noticed that yesterday too.
