Unfortunately, there has not been a cam at this site for some years now. I always used to enjoy this site, especially during the years when Lolo and Gretch were the resident pair.

Maricopa County Administration Building
Phoenix. Arizona

Link for webcam Arizona Game & Fish Peregrine Cam

Peregrine falcons have been nesting in the downtown Phoenix area for more than a decade.  Early on, the birds selected the Maricopa County Administration Building as a nest site.  An agreement with the county now allows the Arizona Game and Fish Department to monitor the birds' nesting progress.  The Arizona Game and Fish Department constructed a nest box equipped with a live feed video camera and tried to entice the falcons to use the nest box, but efforts failed. Two different designs, both built by Mesa woodworker Glenn Bollinger, remained unused by the birds.  The female instead chose to nest in a gutter adjacent to the box where she was seldom successful.  Over a seven year period, only two chicks survived to the age of fledging.

In 2014, the female peregrine disappeared and was replaced that nesting season by another that did use the nest box.  Two eggs were laid but failed to hatch.  Early in 2016, preparations began to upgrade the video feed that no longer worked due to technological advancements.

The birds used the nest box again in 2015, laying three eggs in late March.  All three eggs hatched. However, only two of the young fledged.  The third left the nest box and, despite the best efforts of the department, could not be located and presumably died.

In early 2016, the nest box was renovated and state-of-the-art streaming video and audio equipment was installed in anticipation of the falcons using the nest box again this season.  Since the renovation, the peregrines have been spending more time at the nest box, indicating they intend to nest there again this year.  Peregrine falcons usually return to the same nest for many years.

These scaps are from this morning.  :)

Duluth, Minnesota

(photos: plant from SustainablePlant.com; nestbox from the Duluth web cam resource website)

In 2008, the first peregrine chick was born at the Hibbard Energy Center in Duluth where Minnesota Power had installed a nest box.  Since 2008, 10 chicks have hatched and been banded.

The nestbox has been removed for the 2015 nesting season due to maintenance on the smokestack.  It is to be reinstalled in time for the 2016 nesting season.  It is expected that the birds will nest on the nearby Richard I Bong Memorial Bridge (aka the Bong Bridge) in 2015.

Horizon Milling King Plant
Lake City, Minnesota

(photo: nestbox from Birdcam.it)

The nest box was built through collaboration between Horizon Milling and the Raptor Resource Project. The nest box provides a safe haven for the once nearly extinct peregrine falcons. The video camera was put in the nest box in 2003 to give Horizon Milling employees and the community the ability to watch the peregrines nurture their eggs, which are expected to hatch in early- to mid-May, online.

Oak Creek Power Plant
Oak Creek, Wisconsin

(photos: plant from the URS website; nestbox from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

The Oak Creek site has a long history of coal-fired power generation. Plans for the original Oak Creek Power Plant began in the late 1940s when energy demand was beginning to outpace the company’s generating capabilities.  The Oak Creek facility is one of the cleanest and most efficient plants of its type in the United States.  The peregrines have been active here since 1998 producing a total of 46 young (3.1/year).

Presque Isle Power Plant
Marquette, Michigan

The Presque Isle Power Plant is an electric generating plant located at Marquette, Michigan, on the shore of Lake Superior. The plant has 5 active generating units with a total net generating capacity of 431 Megawatts. This plant has two smokestacks 400 and 410 feet (122 and 125 m) in height and was built in 1955 by Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company.  This plant generates 90% of the Upper Peninsula's electricity and 12% of the electricity in the Wisconsin Electric (WE) Energy system. Half of the plant's generating capacity goes to the Empire and Tilden iron ore mines on the nearby Marquette Iron Range.  In 2006, the plant incorporated a new process for capturing and reducing mercury emissions.  WE Energy has indicated that it may be forced to permanently shut down the Presque Isle plant in 2017 as it may not be able to meet new EPA pollution standards that will be in place at that time, though in 2012 there was an announcement of investment to upgrade the facility to meet standards. In 2013 WE's largest customer, the mining company Cliffs Natural Resources, announced that they were dropping the Presque Isle Plant as their power supplier and in Feb 2014, the Presque Isle Plant was put up for sale by WE Energy. Pleasant Prairie Power Plant
Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin

(photos: plant from the Noria website; nestbox from the Kenosha News)

Pleasant Prairie Power Plant is a base-load, coal-fired, electrical power station located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin in Kenosha County. In 2009, it was listed as the largest generating station in Wisconsin and generates roughly 13% of Wisconsin's electricity, burning around 13,000 tons of coal daily. The plant uses experimental technology to separate carbon dioxide from the exhaust, and is seen as a proving ground for clean coal technology.  The plant is owned by We Energies.  The 30-year old power plant has developed and applied a retrofit system that has helped reduce nitrogen oxide by up to 90 percent and sulfur dioxide by up to 95 percent. However, the Pleasant Prairie plant still pours out “8.6 million tons of CO2 annually – about as much as (that produced by) 1.7 million US cars,” according to the Wall Street Journal.  In an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the plant uses a chilled ammonia process that captures up to 90 percent of carbon emissions as it escapes the flue gas.

Port Washington Generating Station
Port Washington, Wisconsin

(photos: plant from WE Energies; nestbox from Raptor Resource)

This 1,150-megawatt natural gas-powered generating station replaced a 225-megawatt coal-fueled plant that had operated at the same site for more than 70 years. It is the most thermally efficient generating power plant in Wisconsin.  This plant occupies more than 52 acres of land at the southern end of Port Washington, Wis., on the shore of Lake Michigan.

Commerce Tower
Kansas City, Missouri

(photos - building from Wikipedia, nesttray from Alison/CMNH)

Commerce Tower is a 30-story Skyscraper located in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Constructed in 1965, it is the ninth tallest habitable structure in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and since the completion of the City Hall, it was the first locally designed Skyscraper in Kansas City. The facade is constructed of pre-cast stone and glass, (known as a "curtain-wall") creating a unique look, especially for its time.  The last 15-foot beam was signed by 18,000 people including Harry S Truman.  The building is expected to change ownership in 2013 and be redeveloped into a $71 million mix of office, residential, and educational uses -- due, in part, to construction of the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar right outside the building's main entrance.

Whittier Hotel
Detroit, Michigan

(photos:  building from Wikipedia, birds/nest from Peregrine Foundation website)

The Whittier (also known as the Whittier Apartments) is a partially renovated high rise residential complex and former hotel located at 415 Burns Drive in Detroit, Michigan, on the Detroit River. The Whittier was constructed as an apartment hotel, meaning that tenants could rent an apartment, yet have access to services typically provided by a hotel.[2] The Whittier was built at a time when the population boom in Detroit increased demand for housing.[2] The developer selected a site near the Detroit River, in an area that was, until then, primarily used for exclusive upper-class homes.[2] Construction began in 1921, and ran until 1927.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Jackson County Tower Building
Jackson, Michigan

(photos:  building from Wikipedia; bird/nest by MLive)

The 17-story Tower Building was built in 1929 for the new Union and Peoples National Bank.  The Tower Building was at that time referred to as the "Golden Towers."  In 1933 the National Bank of Jackson was organized as the successor to the Union and Peoples National Bank.  Operations continued in the original building, though the National Bank never took ownership. In 1958, the National Bank vacated and for several years Consumers Power Company leased space.  In 1975 it was sold to the County for a nominal sum by the Raymond Kolowich family and became the County Tower Building.  The County Commissioners' Chamber is located on the 5th floor.   This "castle-topped" structure is one of Jackson's most treasured buildings and continues to reign as downtown's tallest landmark.

Michigan / Flint - Durant Hotel - 2019

U of Michigan / Durant Hotel
Flint, Michigan

The pair in this territory have used two sites, the Northbank Centre Building on the U of Michigan at Flint campus and just around the corner at the Durant Hotel.  In both cases the pair nest on exposed ledges near the top of the buildings.

(photos:  Northbank Centre, UM-Flint by Sarah Razak/Flickr; Northbank nest by Ryan Garza/MLive.com)

The Northbank Center (formerly Industrial Savings Bank) is a 12-story, steel frame and reinforced concrete building faced with Indiana limestone and light-colored brick. The upper five floors were originally home to the Industrial Mutual Association, which provided health and life insurance to carriage and auto workers. The lower three stories are articulated with fluted pilasters. Classical motifs are also found in the upper two floors, including a wide copper cornice projecting above the 11th floor, highlighted with lions' heads and anthemions. [this is where the peregrines nest].  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 as the Industrial Savings Bank Building.  The building was reportedly designed after the Ancient Temple in Athens, Greece.  In 2000, the University of Michigan renovated the building at a cost of $3,000,000; converting it to office space, classroom space, and a 400-seat banquet hall.

The Durant Hotel was built in 1920 and quickly became a symbol of Flint’s prominence and success. The landmark building was named after William Durant, General Motor's founder.  The Hotel closed in 1973, roughly when Flint's decline began.  It sat vacant for 37 years, until reopening in 2010 as a 93-unit apartment building, with retail on the ground floor.

Campbell Ewald Building
Warren, Michigan

(photos: building from GoStar/Loopnet.com; nestbox from LCE/Facebook)

Lowe Campbell Ewald is an advertising and marketing communications agency headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, with offices in Los Angeles, New York and San Antonio.  The agency has a long-standing history in the Detroit area and recently celebrated its 103rd anniversary in the advertising industry. In 1911, Frank Campbell and Henry Ewald merged their individual Detroit companies to form Campbell Ewald, beginning with just six employees. Campbell, a veteran of the Spanish-American war left the business in 1917 to work in relief in war ravaged France and living a subsequent life of adventure until his death in Oregon, crushed by a boulder at age 72. Henry Ewald was left to run the agency and took it to great heights.  On July 2013, Lowe Campbell Ewald announced that they are moving their headquarters from Warren to Downtown Detroit to a building located adjacent to Ford Field.  (source: Wikipedia)

BWL Eckert Electric Generating Plant
Lansing, Michigan

(photos:  all photos from the Lansing Board of Water & Light)

Lansing, Michigan is one of many successful Peregrine Falcon nests in the state. Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) is very fortunate and honoured to have an endangered species of Michigan take habitat at our Eckert electric generating plant. Our new falcon cameras were installed on February 28, 2008.

webcam & website link: http://www.lbwl.com/falcon.aspx

In 2004, after we successfully fledged 2 of our 3 falcon chicks, our thoughts shifted to how to help them in years to come. Since the peregrine will use the same nesting site year after year, and they mate for life, there would be a good chance they would return to nest at BWL Eckert for many years to come. In the spring of 2006, Stelco, the female falcon, laid 5 eggs on the breaching near the roof of our 5th generating unit. However, those eggs did not hatch. While incubation was in progress and wishing we had a nesting box for her to use, we starting making plans to build a nesting box. On March 12, 2007 we placed our nesting box on the east most breaching of our 6th generating unit at Eckert. Ten days later on March 22nd, Stelco jumped into her new home happily. The summer of 2007 was again successful, Stelco laid 5 more eggs. But again, they did not hatch. In 2008, we raised the nesting box higher above the very hot breaching in hopes of helping the falcons have a successful brood. We also added hinges to the back for access into the box when the time comes to band the eyases in the summer of 2008.

DTE Power Plant
Monroe, Michigan

(photos: plant from Port of Monroe website)

The Monroe Power Plant is a coal-fired power plant located on a 1,000-acre tract on the western basin of Lake Erie between the Raisin River and Plum Creek. The 800 acres available for wildlife enhancement at the site include ponds, restored prairies, wetlands, woodlands and areas along the Lake Erie shoreline. The wildlife team supports a nesting pair of peregrine falcons at the site. The employee wildlife team installed a safety net for fledglings under the 110-foot high nest after trying unsuccessfully to encourage the falcons to nest in a safer place. The plant is one of only four known locations in southeastern Michigan that supports nesting pairs of peregrine falcons.

Peregrines have been recorded showing nesting behavior at Monroe Power Plant since 1994. Nesting has been continuously successful since 1997 with the hatching of many chicks. There has been a steady stream of adult breeding peregrines. The most recent male, Leopold, lived to the ripe old age of 14, and fledged in his lifetime at the Monroe site a total of 22 peregrines (14 female, 8 male).  Since the peregrines began nesting at the plant in 1997, 33 peregrine falcons have fledged on site.

American Enterprise Building
Des Moines, Iowa

(photo: building & nestlocation from the Iowa DNR)

Since 1993 American Enterprise (previously American Republic) staff has hosted a falcon pair that produced three young that year. Since that time there have been 46 young produced at this site. There have been three females and two separate males at this site. One young from 2008 has a separate territory at the State Capitol where he produced one young last year.

One Wells Fargo Centre is a skyscraper in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is the headquarters for Wells Fargo's east coast division. At 588 feet (179 m) tall and 42 stories, it is the fifth tallest building in Charlotte. When it was opened on September 14, 1988, it was the tallest building in North Carolina. In 1992, One Wells Fargo Center was surpassed by the Bank of America Corporate Centre, and again in 2002 by Hearst Tower, another Bank of America building. It is considered Charlotte's first postmodern high-rise.

Bremer Bank is the name of the banks owned by the Bremer Financial Corporation, a bank holding company founded by Otto Bremer in 1943. They operate bank branches in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota, with a financial capitalization of about $8 billion. With headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, the company is completely owned by employees and the Otto Bremer Foundation.  (check out this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bremer_Bank - for more information on Otto Bremer, very cool banker, nice if we had more of his kind these days!!)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' Nongame Wildlife Program is broadcasting a Web streaming video of peregrine falcons nesting on the top of the Bremer Bank Building in downtown St. Paul. With the help of the Town Square merchants as well as the Midwest Peregrine Society, The Nongame Program is able to provide this unique opportunity to watch peregrines raise their young in an urban setting.

In 1987, a nesting box was placed on the east side of the building and was first used by a pair of falcons in 1988. Several pairs of falcons have chosen this site as their home, producing 65 chicks through 2012. Meg was the resident female for Last year was the 9th year that the pair "Jill" and "Sota" had occupied the box. Sota hatched in 1994 and had been nesting since 1998. Despite missing two toes on each foot (probably due to frostbite), and being 17 years old, Sota had been able to provide enough food for himself, all of his offspring and his mate during incubation and early brooding of chicks. Unfortunately, Sota didn't return in 2013.

(photos:  building from Wikipedia; nestbox by Bucky Turko/AnimalNewYork.com)

55 Water Street is a 687-foot (209 m) tall skyscraper in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City, on the East River. It was completed in 1972 and has 53 floors. Emery Roth & Sons designed the building, which is tied with 277 Park Avenue as the 40th tallest building in New York City. When it was completed it was the largest office building in the world, and is still the largest in New York by floor area. In an arrangement with the Office of Lower Manhattan Development, it was built on a superblock created from four adjoining city blocks, suppressing the western part of Front Street.  This nest site is located on the 14th floor

Lansing Board of Water & Light Eckert Power Plant
Lansing, Michigan

(photos: plant from MLive.com; nestbox from LBWL.com)

LBWL's largest power plant is the Otto E. Eckert Station, and was named after the utility's general manager from 1927 to 1966. The coal-fired generating station is located in downtown Lansing on the Grand River, adjacent to General Motors' Grand River Assembly Plant and the now-demolished Lansing Car Assembly Plant. Begun in 1922 and completed the following year, the power station has undergone numerous expansions and additions since, with the addition of the three chimneys in 1981. The station has a generating capacity of 351 megawatts, produced by burning coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin. This plant has three 615-foot (187 m) smokestacks, the tallest self-supporting structures in south central Michigan. These stacks are visible from fifteen miles (24 km) on a clear day. The stacks are known locally by the names of Wynken, Blynken, and Nod, after the fishermen in a poem of the same name by Eugene Field. It was announced in May 2008 that the plant is scheduled for a phased decommissioning that is scheduled to begin in 2017 and end in 2025.

Xcel Energy's Sherco Power Plant
Becker, Minnesota

(photos: plant from American Public Media; nestbox from the Science Buzz website)

The Sherco Plant is located in Becker on the Mississippi River, 45 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. Sheer size sets the Sherburne County Generating Plant (Sherco) apart from the company’s other generating facilities. Sherco is the largest in terms of square feet, steam production, power generation capability and coal consumption.  The Sherco nest box was installed in 1991. It is definitely a room with a view at 450 feet above ground on the Unit 3 stack - this stack stands 650 feet high - as tall as several downtown Minneapolis office towers.  Fifty-five peregrines have been banded from the Sherco nest box.

Xcel Energy's Black Dog Power Plant
Burnsville, Minnesota

(photos:  plant by Peterson Aerial Photos; nestbox by Froona)

Black Dog is a coal- and gas-fired generating station, located on the Minnesota River at Burnsville just south of the Twin Cities.  Black Dog takes its name from the Black Dog band of Sioux - or Dakotah - and their leader Chief Black Dog, who settled an area on the south bank of the Minnesota River around 1750. The settlement was the oldest Mdewakanton tribe in the area.  All four original Black Dog units were built in the 1950s, and by 1960 Black Dog was the second largest base load plant in what was then the Northern States Power system, a predecessor to Xcel Energy. In 2002, with the addition of the new combined cycle unit, the plant regained its status as the second largest fossil fueled plant in Xcel Energy’s North region. Black Dog’s coal units generate power 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The natural gas combined cycle unit is designed to provide intermediate generation during higher load periods.

webcam link: http://birdcam.xcelenergy.com/falcon.html

Black Dog is located in the Minnesota River Valley, also home to variety of waterfowl and other wildlife. A good vantage point to view migrating waterfowl is along Black Dog Road between Interstate Highway 35W and Cedar Avenue. Xcel Energy owns about 1,500 acres around the Black Dog cooling ponds that it leases to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service so it can maintain a preserve. Black Dog Preserve includes rare plant families more than 4,000 years old, along with thousands of waterfowl and songbirds, hawks, squirrels, gophers, chipmunks, foxes, beaver, raccoons, deer and mink.

The Dunn Memorial Bridge, officially known as the Private Parker F. Dunn Memorial Bridge, carries US 9 and US 20 across the Hudson River between Albany, New York and Rensselaer, New York. Completed in 1967 to replace an earlier span bearing the same name, the highway bridge has a steel girder design. It is the southernmost toll-free road crossing of the Hudson. Parker F. Dunn, an Albany native who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his service in World War I.

Mid-Hudson Bridge
Poughkeepsie, New York

(photos:  bridge from Wikipedia; nestbox from Poughkeepsie Journal)

The Mid-Hudson Bridge (officially the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge) is a toll suspension bridge which carries US 44 and NY 55 across the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland in the state of New York. Governor and local resident Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor attended the opening ceremony on August 25, 1930. The bridge was renamed the "Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge" in 1994 though the span is rarely referred to by its official name.  The bridge is 3,000 feet (910 m) long with a clearance of 135 feet (41 m) above the Hudson. At opening, it was the sixth-longest suspension bridge in the world.  (Source: Wikipedia)

The State Tower Building is a high-rise building located in Syracuse, New York. Completed in 1928, the building remains the highest in Syracuse to date. It has 23 floors and rises 95.4 meters (312 feet) into the air. The building was designed as a large office building with the first 10 floors being large, and the top floors being setback and smaller such that one entity might occupy an entire floor. On the roof of the tenth floor was a deck on which there was a full-service restaurant.  The building is made of steel and concrete with a limestone, terra-cotta and brick facade. The architect was Thompson & Churchill. It was renovated in 2003. (source: Wikipedia)  The peregrines nest on the 20th floor.

Gulf Tower
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

(photos: building from Wikipedia; nest site location & nestbox from WQED)

Gulf Tower is a 44-story, 177.4 m (582 ft) Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The tower is one of the major distinctive and recognizable features of the city.  Built as the headquarters for the Gulf Oil Company, and known as the Gulf Building, the structure was designed by the firm of Trowbridge & Livingston and completed in 1932 at a cost of $10.05 million ($141.9 million today).  Now called Gulf Tower, it has 44 floors and rises 177.4 m (582 ft) above Downtown Pittsburgh. The crown of the skyscraper is modeled after the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in the style of a step pyramid. The building was listed as a Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmark in 1973.  Peregrines have nested at the Gulf Tower since 1991.

James River Bridge
Newport News, Virginia

(photos: bridge source unknown; tower lift (where nestbox is located) & nestbox is from Centre for Conservation Biology)

The James River Bridge is a four-lane divided highway lift bridge across the James River in the U.S. state of Virginia. Owned and operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation, it carries U.S. Route 17 (US 17), US 258, and State Route 32 across the river near its mouth at Hampton Roads. The bridge connects Newport News on the Virginia Peninsula with Isle of Wight County in the South Hampton Roads region, and is the easternmost such crossing without a tunnel component.   When completed in 1928, the 4.5-mile (7 km) bridge was the longest bridge in the world over water. The original two-lane bridge was replaced from 1975 to 1982 with a wider four-lane bridge that could handle increased traffic volumes. In 2005, the bridge carried an annual average daily traffic of about 30,000 vehicles per day. Bicycles, mopeds, and pedestrians are banned from using the bridge; the easternmost crossing for them is the Jamestown Ferry, about 25 miles (40 km) upstream (source: Wikipedia)

Hack Site
Cobb Island, Virginia

(photos: Cobb Island Station pre-move; nest structure from CCBBirds.org)

Along the seaside of Virginia's Eastern Shore are a chain of uninhabited barrier islands, stretching from Assateague Island at the Maryland border, to Fisherman's Island at the foot of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  These 23 shifting islands of sand, as well as a swath of marshland and lagoons constitute one of the longest undeveloped stretch of shoreline on the East Coast.  While most are protected today by the Nature Conservancy's Virginia Coast Reserve, untouched they are not.  Since the mid-1800s, people have attempted beach resorts, hunting and fishing clubs, and even entire communities on these islands exposed to the ravages of sea and storm.  Cobb Island was a magnet for the rich and famous, with a large resort hotel built by the Cobbs with their earnings from salvaging shipwrecks. Decoys carved by Nathan Cobb Jr. are exhibited in museums and worth thousands of dollars.

website link: http://ccb-wm.org/programs/peregrine/peregrine_coast_cobbis.htm

Cobb Island was the site of the first Peregrine release in Virginia. The coast guard station located on the extreme southern end of the island served as a base of operations for all releases. Peregrines were first released in 1978 from the coast guard station itself. Birds were hacked from a box placed on the third floor observation room.  Birds hacked after 1978 were released from the peregrine hack tower erected in the winter of 1978.  The island is now owned by The Nature Conservancy and is included in The Conservancy's Virginia Coast Reserve. The Cobb Island coast guard station was moved from the island to the town of Oyster in 1999 and restored.  The peregrines continue to use the hacksite for their nest site.

Terminal Tower is a 52-storey, 235 m (771 ft), landmark skyscraper located on Public Square in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. It was built during the skyscraper boom of the 1920s and 1930s, and was the fourth tallest building in the world when it was officially dedicated on June 28, 1930. Only three buildings in New York City were taller than its 708 feet (216 m), 52-floor frame.

Allen S King Xcel Energy Plant
Oak Park, Minnesota

(photos: plant & nestbox from WingsHigh/Photobucket)

Allen S. King is a single-unit coal-fired generating plant with a cyclone boiler. The unit provides base load electric service, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The original King unit went into service in 1968 and served reliably for more than 35 years.  The King plant was completely rehabilitated from 2004-2007 as part of Xcel Energy's Metro Emissions Reduction Project. Improvements included steam turbine replacement, steam generator repairs and modifications, coal handling upgrades and the addition of state-of-the-art air quality control equipment. The improvements were targeted at significantly reducing air emissions and restoring the King unit to its original electricity output capacity, while extending the life of the plant.  The A. S. King plant stack reaches 785 feet, taller than many of the office towers in downtown Minneapolis, 30 miles away.  King plant also was the model for a successful and growing peregrine falcon restoration effort, as the first plant in the nation to place a falcon nest box on it stacks. Several other Xcel Energy plants have joined the effort, along with other generating facilities worldwide. The plant also maintains an osprey nest box, and the land around the plant is home to other waterfowl and wildlife. (source Xcel Energy website)

Sun Trust Plaza (303 Peachtree)

This cam focuses on peregrine falcons nesting on a SunTrust Plaza Tower balcony more than 50 stories above Atlanta. Nesting typically occurs February–May. Unfortunately, the peregrines have not nested on the balconies since 2016, although sightings of juvenile peregrines in the area suggest they have nested in or near the building. DNR and partners hope the peregrines return to their usual SunTrust nest sites in 2019. The state's only known "wild" nest site is at Tallulah Gorge State Park.

The nesting falcons and the Web cam are being generously hosted by the law firm of McKenna, Long & Aldridge, which occupies the top floors of the building.  The nest is located in a large planter box containing small bushes on the 51st floor balcony in downtown Atlanta. (Sun Trust Plaza is 60 storeys high) The planter makes an ideal nest site because it provides a soft substrate, offers some protection from the elements and is too high up for any natural predators.  (from Georgia Department of Natural Resources website)

from Wikipedia: The building was one of several struck by the mid-March 2008 Atlanta tornado, however it did not sustain damage as severe as most of the other buildings just south of it. Several offices had to be temporarily relocated within the building due to broken windows ... Atlanta's SunTrust Plaza building is home to a peregrine falcons' nest in planters on a balcony more than 50 stories above ground. High above any natural predators, the planters offer soft substrate and afford some protection from harsh weather. Peregrine falcons have been nesting at SunTrust Plaza since 1997. This Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division web-camera offers viewers a unique look at the peregrines nesting activities in real-time. (Note: The balcony is private and not open to the public.)

Peregrine Falcons nested on the Library for the first time in the summer of 2004. That year there were four eggs, but shortly after the eggs hatched the female, Sarah John, broke her wing leaving the male, Joel, to raise the chicks on his own. Only one chick successfully fledged, the other three succumbed to malnourishment and disease. Sarah John with the broken wing received veterinary treatment and now appears in nature education programs.  A new female, Nona, arrived in 2005 and they nested successfully before Joel broke his wing which did not heal well and he had to be euthanized.  From 2006, Nona's mate at this location has been Squawker.

The nestbox is on the 21st floor of the Travelers Tower in downtown Hartford. Amelia started nesting on the tower in 1997. Previously, the last documented nesting occurred on the Tower in the late 1940s.  The nesting tray is located on a window ledge on the 21st floor, overlooking Constitution Plaza and the Connecticut River. The tray is roughly 24" x 15" and is filled with 1/4" pea stone (gravel). The first tray was placed on the ledge by volunteers in 1984. The current tray was built by Bob D'Aquila of Trammel Crow. The new tray was installed in March 2001.  The cameras (one at each end of the ledge) were installed in 2002 I believe.

Ironton-Russell Bridge
Ironton, Ohio & Russell, Kentucky

(photos: bridge by CMH2315fl/Flickr (cc); nest by Ohio DNR)

The Ironton–Russell Bridge opened in 1922 as the first highway bridge along the Ohio River between Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon, the Ironton-Russell bridge was followed by numerous others at Ashland, Portsmouth, and Huntington. This light-blue cantilever bridge carries two lanes of traffic and a narrow sidewalk.

In 2000, the Ohio Department of Transportation released a report recommended the replacement of the then 78 year old span. The bridge was retrofitted in the 1970s with strengthening beams and plates. The bridge will still be forced to close when temperatures approach -5 degrees Fahrenheit due to the brittle nature of the steel used. Continuous monitoring is routine during temperatures below freezing to check for any cracking in the substructure of the span. One of the replacements considered was a three-lane single-tower cable suspension bridge. The final design was chosen in January 2003, however, the high costs of constructing the bridge became apparent when costs for the new bridge came in at $110 million, well over the original estimated cost. The sharp rise was attributed to the dramatic increase in construction costs partially blamed on Hurricane Katrina, which increased the cost of concrete materials and items derived from petroleum products. The bridge has been redesigned with two-towers and has been reduced from three lanes to two. Construction on the replacement span began in March 2012 just upstream from the current structure. The current bridge will remain open during construction and will be closed and demolished once the new bridge is open.

there is no webcam at this location

May 18, 2004 - six members of the Ohio Division of Wildlife were inspecting the Ironton-Russell Bridge to identify two potential peregrine falcon chicks nesting on a bridge pier. But when the wildlife officials were granted a closer look at the nest, they found four peregrine falcon chicks instead. The birds, one of the fastest animals on earth with a recorded top speed of 242 miles per hour, have been known to swoop down and peck at the heads of unsuspecting pedestrians on the bridge. As a result of the birds and their endangered status, the pedestrian walkway was closed.

March 2016 - Construction on the new bridge (upstream from the old bridge) began in 2012 and could be open before the end of 2016.  By March 2016 the new $81.3 million bridge was more than 83 percent complete, according to Kathleen Fuller, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation's District 9 office.  Efforts to keep the old bridge open as a historical (it was completed in 1922), pedestrian span after the new one is completed hadn't (as of March) gained a lot of traction. Plans are in place to demolish the old bridge in 2017, Fuller said.  Officials also will make an effort to relocate a pair of peregrine falcons from beneath the old bridge before it is torn down, Fuller said.  "They're pretty good about relocating themselves," she said.

Market Tower is a skyscraper located at the corner of Illinois and Market streets in Indianapolis, Indiana. The tower was completed in 1988 and it has 32 floors, making it the fourth-tallest building in the city. It is unknown whether the 8 spires at the top of the tower are included in the building height, which is 421 feet (128 m). Market Tower is the tallest concrete reinforced tower in the state of Indiana. It is primarily used for office space.

(photos: both from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee)

Peregrine Falcons have been present on the UWM campus for several years frequently seen soaring above or perched on several of the high rise buildings on campus. In particular, much activity has been observed on the Engineering & Mathematical Sciences Building. In the fall of 2007, Greg Septon of the Peregrine Falcon Recovery Program, toured the EMS site and encouraged University officials and scientists to build and install a nest box at the site. Plans were drawn up for the box, UWM Physical Plant carpenters and other trades workers constructed and installed the nest box at a site chosen on the roof of the EMS building. Department Biological Sciences faculty and staff provide scientific observation and data reporting.

Its a nice website and two cams, one looking in, one looking out.  Also a blog but doesn't really track day-to-day minutiae (or at least not so far).  Nestbox has been replaced and there is now a lot less stress over the safety of the chicks-in-the-box.

One Capital Centre Building
10th & Main Street
Boise, Idaho

(photos: building by Architecture Buff/Skyscraperpage forum; nestbox from Peregrine Fund website)

One Capital Center is a high rise building in Boise, Idaho. It is located at 999 Main St. The building has 14 floors and is 206 feet tall and was completed in 1975 by Mountain Bell. From 1975 to 1978 it was the tallest building in the city of Boise and the state of Idaho, but now it is the second tallest building in Boise. Billionaire J. R. Simplot (1909-2008) had an office on the top floor of this building. In April 2009, a webcam was set up to view a pair of peregrine falcons incubating four eggs in a nest on the fourteenth floor of the One Capital Center Building. (source: Wikipedia)  Nestbox is on the northwest corner of the building on the 14th floor.  Site is coordinated by The Peregrine Fund (Boise is where their headquarters is located).

Joseph Smith Memorial Building
Salt Lake City, Utah

(photos: building from J Stephen Conn/Flickr; nestbox from the Salt Lake City Peregrines facebook page)

Originally the Hotel Utah, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building was later named in honor of Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. It is located on the corner of Main Street and South Temple in Salt Lake City.  The corner of Main Street and South Temple has long been important in Utah history. Prior to construction of the Hotel Utah in 1909-11, the general tithing office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), a bishop's storehouse, and the Deseret News printing plant all were located on the site.  Work on the Second Renaissance Revival style hotel, designed by the Los Angeles architectural firm of Parkinson and Bergstrom, began in June 1909. Two years later, on June 9, 1911, the Hotel Utah opened for business. While the LDS Church was the primary stockholder, many Mormon and non-Mormon community and business leaders also purchased stock in the effort to provide the city with a first-class hotel.  "The largest and finest bar in the West [was built] in the basement of the Hotel" to pay off a $2M construction loan. The financing was secured by Presiding Bishop Charles W. Nibley, from New York financier Charles Baruch. But the scheme obviously required the sales of hard liquor.  The ten-story building has a concrete and steel structure and is covered with white glazed terra cotta and brick. Various additions and remodelings have occurred throughout the years, including a substantial expansion to the north and modifications to the roof-top dining facilities.  On January 3, 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Hotel Utah.   The building ceased operations as a hotel in August 1987. A major remodeling and adaptive reuse project to accommodate both community and church functions was completed in 1993. Church leader Gordon B. Hinckley chose the name when he observed that there were many monuments to pioneer leader and Utah founder Brigham Young, but none to Joseph Smith.  2011 marked the celebration of 100 years since initial construction was completed on the Hotel Utah.  The peregrines nest on the roof.

Dairyland Power Cooperative Plant
Genoa, Wisconsin

Genoa Station #3 (G-3), located on the bank of the Mississippi River about 20 miles south of Dairyland Power Cooperative's La Crosse, Wis., headquarters, was completed in 1969 at a cost of $56 million.  G-3 was named simply because it was the third generating facility to be built in Genoa, Wis. (Genoa #1, now dismantled, and the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor, shut down in 1987 for economic reasons, were built earlier.)  This super efficient, single unit station has a generating capacity of 379 megawatts of electricity.

This pair alternates between the nestbox at the Dairyland Power Cooperative Plant in Alma and a cliff-ledge on 12 Mile Bluff a short distance away from the Plant.

The Alma Station, located on the bank of the Mississippi River in Alma, Wis., first came online in 1947.  The first three units of the Alma Station ceased operations on Dec. 31, 2011. In October 2013, Dairyland announced plans to indefinitely suspend operations at Alma Station units 4 and 5 by early 2015.

This pair is notorious for not managing to evade identification despite the presence of a webcam.  Both are banded however so there is always hope.e a matter of time.  12 Mile Bluff is fortunately close enough that the camera at the nestbox can be positioned to see the birds nesting on the cliff ledge.

Rhodes State Office Tower
Columbus, Ohio

(photos: building from Wikipedia; nest ledge from Ohio DNR blog)

The James A. Rhodes State Office Tower is a 41-story, 191.72 m (629.0 ft) skyscraper at 30 East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. The Rhodes Tower was completed and occupied in 1974, and is currently the tallest building in Columbus and the fifth tallest in Ohio after Key Tower, Terminal Tower and 200 Public Square in Cleveland and Great American Tower at Queen City Square in Cincinnati.  Construction costs totaled approximately $66 million. It is named after Ohio's longest serving governor, James A. Rhodes. The building's odd shape is attributed to a last-minute decision to cap its height; originally, the building was supposed to be nearly 150 ft (46 m) taller.

Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn, New York

(photos:  bridge from Wikipedia; nest location from the Backyard & Beyond blog)

The Brooklyn Bridge is a bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Completed in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. It has a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m), and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed.  On May 30, 1883, six days after the opening, a rumor that the Bridge was going to collapse caused a stampede, which was responsible for at least twelve people being crushed and killed. On May 17, 1884, P. T. Barnum helped to squelch doubts about the bridge's stability—while publicizing his famous circus—when one of his most famous attractions, Jumbo, led a parade of 21 elephants over the Brooklyn Bridge.  Originally referred to as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and as the East River Bridge, it was dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge, a name from an earlier January 25, 1867, letter to the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, and formally so named by the city government in 1915. Since its opening, it has become an icon of New York City, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1972.

The nest was all but unreachable located some 80 feet above the roadway on the Bridge’s granite archway ledge.

San Jose City Hall
San Jose, California

San Jose is the third-largest city in California, the tenth-largest in the United States, and the county seat of Santa Clara County. It is the largest city in Northern California.  San Jose was founded on November 29, 1777, as El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe, the first civilian town in the Spanish colony of Nueva California. City Hall was designed by Richard Meier, and opened to the public on 15 October 2005, replacing the former City Hall complex which was used from 1958 until 2005. From 1889 to 1958 the city hall was located in what is now Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San José.  The US$382 million facility has [apparently] been somewhat controversial, however the building was designed to be environmentally-friendly, making use of natural light and providing shading with a "bris soleil" on the tower.  The complex is large, with the 18-storey tower totaling 550,000 sq ft (51,000 m2) . The mayor's office is located in the top floor of the tower, with the rotunda serving as an entrance and council chambers located in the third building. (source: Wikipedia)
