Baffled:
Thanks for the reassurance, all. Every time I looked today I saw the egg alone! I guess my timing was off. But now (7:36 EDT) a parent is back in the nextbox. Keeping my eyes peeled for the appearance egg number 2!

I've seen MOM and DAD there off and on all day. This is the site I have open day and night
carly:
No worries, Mom was in the box most of the morning sitting on the egg. Dad brought mom food two times in the past few hours, she is outside on the perch..we just can't see her but when he came in with the food..that's when I realized she was out there the whole time. They are within range always, they would not leave the egg unprotected.
She only laid her first one yesterday and they usually lay an egg every 2 days or so.. so nothing to worry about - everything is on schedule!
