susha:
Both girls are sitting on the edge of the nestbox, as cool and calm as can be 8)
Good to know they're both fine :)
The Peregrine Chick:
The chicks hatched June 4th according to the GRE website which puts their age at 42 days old - even for females, that is fledging age, so likely she took her first flight - on purpose or by accident, they both count as fledging.
I seem to recall that they have had pretty good fledging rates from this site (correct me if I'm wrong here folks) so likely she found herself somewhere close enough to humans that one or both of the adults had a meltdown as a result. Or it could have been that she fledged just fine and someone was nearer the nestbox than the adults like and that is what they were protesting.
I'm sure we'll hear soon if there has been a problem or motality.
Elaine L:
There is some concern on BCAW over the last two days that we are only seeing one chick. No one knows if the other one is close by, or not, as we cannot see anything outside the nestbox. But there was alot of alarm calling yesterday by the adults, and lots of looking down, so it is possible that the other chick came to ground and the people at Elk River Energy were looking for him. No report yet on the Elk River website.
susha:
Parent is on the perch outside the box, looking very relaxed this morning, so the girls must be close by :)

--- Quote from: Elaine L on July 14, 2012, 19:29 ---Both chicks have flown the coop. They could be outside and below, or on the top of the nestbox, but until/if they move the cam to allow a fuller view, we don't know where they are.

Thanks Elaine, I think someone on BCAW tried to contact somebody to have them change the view, that was a while ago though.
