learning to Fly

(1/1)

The Peregrine Chick:
The chicks generally make their first flights somewhere between age 45 days and 55 days of age.  The male chicks usually fly first and the females about a week later.  If there is only one male chick sometimes he will hang out until his sisters fly.  If there is one female chick with brothers, sometimes she flies a little earlier than we would like, but we won't know how many male or female chicks we have until we band them when they are 21 days old.

First, however, they have to hatch!

Mrs. Martin Grade 6:
How long does it take the chicks to learn to fly?
