Oh my goodness!  :o
I've been kept away from this online forum by real life this spring. Now getting caught up, I'm amazed at the events.
From dread at seeing eggs on the infamous ledge, to sadness about the ousting of Pip and Ella with the loss of their eggs, to anticipation of watching a new chapter unfold in the nest box with Pandemic and Hazel, it's been a dramatic start to the season.
Fingers crossed for a successful nest for the first timer newcomers.
Also hoping that Pip and Ella have successfully renested.

Note, the egg on the right is the first egg, the one on the left, the second.

How do I know this? I watched Hazel poop on the first egg as she laid it.  Think the whole biology of egg-laying came to quite a surprise to her.

She's very different from Princess who I watched the longest laying eggs - Princess used to keep her but down and you only knew she'd laid her egg when her tail would pop up afterwards.  So far with Hazel, she stands up tall (and she seems bigger than Princess or Ella) so her egg drops a couple of inches down onto the gravel.  Yet another reason why the gravel works, even after such a dramatic entrance, they haven't so far, rolled afterwards.  Makes knowing she laid an egg easier but it makes one wince a bit as the egg drops.

Sad that Ella & Pip have been ousted from the area and their eggs lost.  :-[  So far no news is good news for them hopefully. With the recent brutal weather, (pounding rain, hail, wind)....not sure how they would have fared, especially if the chicks had hatched, so I'm kinda thankful they hadn't.  :-X.....But it's nice to know there is an active nest on the West Side this year.  ;D

Good luck Tracy.
I know how hard it is to use scope sometimes, and here always windy lol

Hope it’s Pip and Ella

But congratulations. On an egg here

well you have an egg. that is good. nay sign of Ella  and Pip

Not yet, but I'm hoping to find out who a bird is I've seen hanging around at another nestsite - I'm hoping it might be Pip or Ella - its been tough getting a good idea of size but I am hopeful.   Have to do it old school (with a spotting scope) I'm afraid, so the conditions need to be right - good light, little wind, lots of patience and more than the usual amount of luck.  The bird has been relatively consistent in its visits so fingers crossed I will be able to "see" who they are.

Update - absolutely nothing going on at the moment  :)  seriously.

Usually it is Hazel sitting on the box edge though from time to time Pandemic comes in.
Sometimes Hazel wanders inside to fiddle a bit with the gravel (no massive rearrangement like Princess or Ella)
Very occasionally Pandemic turns up with a snack, Hazel snatches it away - sometimes she stays and eats on the box edge, sometimes she heads off elsewhere.
What is annoying about this pair is that except for sitting on the box or sometimes on the sign before they do not sit anywhere within range of the cameras - frustrating to the nth degree.

It is a waiting game ... I haven't seen any hanky-panky but every morning my fingers are crossed when I check the cam!
