France / Illkirch-Graffenstaden - 2018 / Flash & Valentine
(1/1)
Alison:
Valentine and Flash incubated four eggs, and three chicks hatched.
However, when the chicks were still very young, two of the chicks died. Within the next few days, the third chick also died. I do not know what the cause might have been. :'( :'(
Flash and Valentine are very attentive parents and great providers, who successfully raised four chicks last year.
The Peregrine Chick:
Thanks for the photo Alison, it's an interesting design - sure helps to give the chicks more room to stretch/exercise their wings pre-fledge .... going to have to keep that in mind for potential sites with limited chick space ...
Alison:
This webcam first came on line in February 2017. Illkirch-Graffenstaden is located in the extreme northeast corner of France, not far from Strasbourg. It was once part of Germany.
In September 2016, a nest box was installed on the bell tower of the Church of Saint Symphorien, where a peregrine had been observed for about two years. The lone peregrine took possession of the nest box, and soon attracted a female.
The resident pair are Flash and Valentine. Last year, they successfully raised four chicks.
