Sad news ... Beaumont from Beau's and Beatrix's 2014 nest here at West Winnipeg has been found dead.

Read more about it on the blog - Sept 02 - Bittersweet

Thank you to Bccs for passing along the information from her friend

I was very sad to read of the loss of Beamont. It is also sad that he was found back home in Winnipeg, and that we will never know what happened to him, or where he spent the years in between. It never gets any easier to lose one of these magnificent birds.

I’m happy to know that Faith has been seen visiting her nest area (as well as Logan). She’s probably just lonely and looking around for company … hmm, looks like you were right (again!), TPC.  ;)

Maybe they think it’s all over? ??? TPC?

I think Faith is just lonely and Logan is where she last had company.  Haven't seen any of the other birds around since I saw Hart a couple of days ago.  Faith was at the Logan nest for pretty much all day today and never saw anyone else.  Maybe the peregrines know something we don't.  I know the migration sites are up and running - in Boise Idaho, they had 475 raptors go through their site on September 1st.  Seems early to me, but may have to check previous years' records to be sure.  Maybe Winter is Coming sooner than we'd like.

(sorry about the Game of Thrones pun, haven't been watching the series but I do know some of the catchphrases!)

Yes, maybe the peregrines do know something we don't.

I’ll try to think more positive, TPC. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

And a little laughter is helpful at times, I believe.  :)

We always look forward to hearing about the adventures of our falcons. It is so sad to learn about the end to those adventures.  :( :'(

Definite floozy.  With a capital Flooz.

Faith is back at the Logan site, sitting and preening in the shade like she's waiting for her boyfriend to arrive ... hmmm, sounds like this spring in reverse ....

I'm being a bit unfair to poor Faith, she doesn't actually have a nestbox at the moment, we had to move it out of the way at West Winnipeg so they could do work on the roof in that corner of the building.  Hoping to get it back in place before the snow flies though.

Poor Ty and Faith. I know you had to move their nestbox, TPC, but I imagine their missing home could be affecting them quite a bit!? (You mentioned Ty hasn’t been seen on the cam lately, but he could have noticed that his nest disappeared.)

Maybe they think it’s all over? ??? TPC?

Faith is hanging out in the shade at the Logan nest site today ... brave or stupid I'm not sure ... but she's checking out real estate around town.

Seems like she may be the only bird around at the moment, haven't seen anyone, anywhere for the last couple of days at least.  Faith was in the Logan nest tray yesterday for a short visit too ....
I think our birds are still around; they’re likely just out of sight (I hope!).

There was a lone chick up on the wall yesterday. It may have had red tape on its right leg, did not give us a really good look.

If you decide you want to repost photos once/if you move to a new photo host, let me know.  RCF and I have figured out how to set it up so you can do that but it needs to be set up from my side of the forum software.
I will probably take you up on the offer TPC, but it will closer to the end of summer before I can get to this.

Thank you!

No worries Dupre, just let me know if and when.  And feel free to chat with RCF about what worked best for her ...

Spotted one of the chicks this afternoon as it landed on the Tower. It quickly disappeared from sight, I think there was some food up there that it decided would be a good afternoon snack.

One of the adults, Ty I think, was on the Tower as well, about 1/4 of the way down.

At least Photobucket sent me an email to let me know that they require upgrading to a paid subscription for 3rd party hosting now.

Time to look for a new site to upload my photos to. I believe RCF mentioned she is using Flickr now. Will have to sign up and check them out.

Trip to check out the birds started with finding Faith at the Tower and Ty at the Bleachers, about 8:30 pm. Then we spotted one of the chicks at a high point on the Diner. Then the next thing you know it's two chicks off to the Bleachers then one heads back to the Diner while another heads over to the Bleachers. Then another heads to the Bleachers. There were 3 chicks on the Bleachers at once, but we think we saw all of them fly. They looked good. 😁

on my most recent "visit" via camera, could only find one chick and it was in the shade.  Suspect that is where the others are too, just out of camera range.  It is typically what they and all the other WW chicks do when it is sunny and hot.

as of 0600h this morning, three chicks at the Diner and one adult, Faith I think by the size but the light was making it hard (sun shining directly into the camera).  May have seen adult and chick on-camera at the Bleachers but at that distance, size can be a bit of an issue.  No reports yet, so that is good.

Chicks at fledge time yesterday were between 40 and 42 days old.  And these chicks are bigger than the Radisson chicks but not so large as the Logan chicks.

Exciting day!

Chick launched at 6:51, watched chick and one adult fly around to other side of building and lost track of them. At 6:58 Ty landed on the back of the building where I could capture his landing. At 7:01 the chick was back in sight flying above the building.

Went back to the site to check on them about 8:45. Spotted all four chicks plus Ty on the building. One of the chicks was screaming at Ty and advancing, probably asking/demanding food. Ty decided he was having none of this.

When I left there were four chicks on the walls (one on the east, three on the north), Ty was at the Bleachers and Faith at the Tower.

This year's chicks continue to frustrate my attempts to catch sight of all of them at the same time during the day.  Best I can do is when they are tucked up on the roof staying in the shade

https://twitter.com/mbperegrines/status/883352976072507392

So went back through the recorder and found this at 0453h CDT this morning ... a full adolescent chick pile

https://twitter.com/mbperegrines/status/883353356810498048

And yes, I counted - actually I waited until they got up one by one and counted.

Good morning to all the Peregrine Phanatics...as your well aware banding of the Logan and West Wpg chicks has taken place July 18th.
Couldn't ask for a better Nice Fathers Day present !

Banding Galleries have been created and more photos will be added in the days to come.

Stop by and have a look at the kids close up http://www.pbase.com/photosbydennis/peregrines_2017

Glad you didn't get hit TPC. Faith was very aggressive.

Thank Dennis and a big white pail - Faith was not amused that we were up there fooling around with her kids.  But I like peregrines that are willing to hit so long as they don't take what I anthropomorphically think of as dangerous risks in their attempts to cause grievous bodily harm.  Kids were equally as snotty (in a great way!)  ;D

I'll be posting information on the banding hopefully tonight or tomorrow am.  Dennis has finished processing photos and I just need to carve out some time from my busy week.  ;)

Checked out the site on Sunday and found two angry falcons in the air. There was a lot of vocalizing and Faith was taking a LOT of low, fast swoops at someone/something on the roof. Ty was circling a little higher. Faith ended up taking a number of short rests as she was VERY active. Left TPC a message that something was up. Later found out that they were banding at the time.

Glad you didn't get hit TPC. Faith was very aggressive.

I take back the cute piles of fluff post from a couple of days ago ... little biting hellions is what this crew is all about.  And Faith was in a very bad mood!!  Dupre had reported seeing an interloper in the area a wee bit ago, so perhaps that is what made Faith more aggressive than last year.  That's a good thing but it is a long walk across an open rooftop to get to her nestbox.  Not hits this time but not through lack of trying!!

Two girls, two boys for Faith & Ty this year ... cute chicks, going to make project coordinator very happy and contemplate a hard hat when they are old enough to reproduce!!

https://twitter.com/mbperegrines/status/876862701737316352

Little terrors kept watching for us to reappear - I think they were taking bets on how hard their Mom would hit me next time!!

Dennis, Eye-Spy and I were off working behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly - means didn't get to spend time checking the cams.
All the chicks are fine, weather was great - sunny, warm, enough clouds to keep from being too hot - great for the chicks and the adults alike.  It was basically a day of eating and sleeping!  And the chicks are rockstars at both!

'Fraid I couldn't get a good image from the feeding that just happened (1120h CDT) - the sun is high and overhead so the box is in deep shade at the moment and there just isn't enough contrast for a clear screencapture - we can see what we need to, but it would be pretty muddy and mushy for y'all.  Sorry.  All the chicks looked great though - everyone sitting up straight and wanting food.  All look about the same size now, whereas a day ago, a couple looked a bit smaller.  They do grow so fast!

It is warm enough and because they are in the shade, they are in a lovely little happy chick pile with Mom sitting just down the wall where she can still see them without being right on top of them.

Still quiet on the western front  ;)  Can't see any pips in the eggs yet but could be hidden from the cameras view so far, we'll just have to wait and see.  Our best count puts today at Day 32 of incubation - could be tomorrow or could be as late as Wednesday.  Faith and Ty are really the only ones who actually know when the eggs are going to hatch at this point.  I've attached a link to a shift change from this morning in the tweet below.

Nice smooth shift changes between Ty and Faith when Ty is on the eggs.  Faith often gets a little miffed when he's not around when she wants to take a break, but not much she can really do about it.  He's a very attentive mate, usually hanging out nearby and almost always sits on the roof of the box or on the ledge right beside the box during bad weather.  We don't have any other males that are that attentive - though maybe Pip will be like that ... in any case, given how much Ty hangs out with Faith, it just figures that the minute he steps away, she wants a shift change :)  He's used to longer shifts with his previous two mates I suspect.  Nothing to be concerned about, just part of this pair's combined personality.

More creature of habit stuff - I took today's photo and yesterday's photo at pretty much the same time - Faith and Ty both have this habit of hopping off the eggs before their mate actually turns up if the weather is not wet or cold.  I don't know if it is because the other mate flies around or past or something else off camera.  Not sure I remember Ty doing it with Beatrix but it certainly is pair does.

With the warmer temperatures, both Ty and Faith have been spending time off the eggs.  Ty definitely needed to stretch his legs after a long, long early morning shift and with the sun shining right into the box and onto the eggs, he had the luxury that Faith, who takes the later shifts, doesn't have!  Early bird gets the warm morning sun I guess!

Haven't seen Hart out at West Winnipeg for a few days now and Faith is the only one working on the scrape, which given Hart's diligence at the Radisson, if he was coming by, I would expect to see him in Faith's nestbox and I haven't.  She seems pretty patient I must admit, much more patient than I think Joli is but that may be because Joli knows where Hart is spending his time and he is so very close ...

Went by the WW site this evening and found two peregrines there. Female on the east sign and male on the NW corner. Judging by the volume of white feathers found on the ground, at least one of them ate well.  ;D

A male and a female ... very interesting ... keeping me in suspense!

Could this mean that Ty arrived and perhaps his presence brought Faith back to West Wpg?

So far the only male we have seen is Hart but it could be Hart with both Faith and Joli which is what happened at this time last year.  One of the advantages of having cameras is that you can check lots of locations in a very short period in time and so far we only see one "pair" at a time so I think Hart is trying to be all things to all the ladies.  Gotta give him points for optimism.

Yes, I agree that Hart deserves points for optimism, for sure … though I doubt our lovable Hart will be able to look after all the ladies for too much longer.  ;D

This is a cross-board post that I will post on all three Wpg boards ...

We definitely have females at all three Winnipeg nestsites.  I was able to confirm that at the same time, Joli was at Logan, Faith was at West Winnipeg and a male (Hart confirmed) and "the female we suspect may be Princess" were at the Radisson.

Hopefully with the south winds yesterday some additional males will turn up as it appears that Hart is trying to do "husbandly" duties himeself - have seen him bowing and displaying with Joli and Princess in the last day and I'm pretty sure Faith was yakking at him from her nestbox not an hour ago.  Not sure Princess wasn't giving him a lecture this morning but Joli was definitely willing to succumb to his worldly wiles and Faith I think is just so darn eager to get going on things that she's not being particularly discriminating ...  ;D

Today was the first day that Faith has spent time at her own nestbox (see my longer post in the Radisson thread).  She had a yapped at someone that appears to have been flying by at one point but no male appeared.  Ty is a male who likes to sit near his mates, so had it been him, I would have expected him to park his butt on the nestbox almost as soon as he returned to town.  Since that isn't what happened, I'm going to suggest that it was Hart checking Faith out.  Remember, they were hot and heavy at West Winnipeg last year.  Will be interesting to see if he continues to visit since Joli is in town and has been in town longer than Faith unlike last year.  Its a windy day today so it appears that all the birds are tucking down out of the wind out of camera view.  But will keep checking the cameras and the recorders.

Birdie on the SW corner of the diner this morning at 10:40 a.m. No idea who it was; could have been our fellow from downtown I suppose checking out all the best accommodations.

Could be Cooper - which would make sense if our first returnee is Hart - last year he was hot-n-heavy with Faith when he got back.  So far Dennis and I have only been able to spot a single bird at all our cams and the bird looks the same each time (nice white cheeks, white breast, pretty bird with a black over black band).  Dennis is out roaming around today while I am otherwise committed so who knows what he may uncover ...  ;D fingers crossed!
