The McKenzie Seeds Building is a heritage building and I'm sorry I don't know specifically what the rules are other than it isn't just a case of "oh well, knock it down". As for alternate plans, we always have alternate plans. One has had to be scrapped because the building has since been torn down. Fortunately, the peregrines don't have much infrastructure associated with them (nestbox & some gravel) so IF we were ever to get to the point where there are serious discussions about tearing the building down, we aren't starting from scratch. Ultimately however, it will be up to the peregrines to choose which site they prefer. Or sites, some pairs like to bounce between nestsites so we will try to accommodate their preferences.

We haven't given up but there are serious technical difficulties. We used to be able to tap into an existing line but recent demolitions cut all the connections to anything and everything in the building and it is surprisingly more difficult to get this kind of thing reconnected. It doesn't help that the building is long empty and not slated for renovation in the near future. We've lost a whole bunch of power (no elevators and most of the lights) - each year it seems like something else is "gone". Except of course the important stuff - the peregrines.
