Hmmmmm, maybe leaving the head on is part of his strategy. Mom has to take care of it herself and then, he pounces or rather, gathers the eggs and the chick under him. Sneaky is the right word. ;D

He's clever-sneaky - usually Princess doesn't let anyone but her sit on the babes/babes-to-be until after at least the first day.  That or she's mellowing ...  ;D

Just saw Princess feeding the newbie. She had been sitting and chirping for at least 30 minutes. I thought she might be hungry. Smiley finally showed up with  :-X the head still on. Princess went out and returned with a cleaned up prey. Smiley finally gathered everyone under him and sat.

For those who decided pre-0600h was a bit early (me included) here's our first arrival for 2016 - or at least as much as Princess is willing to show us so far. 



Chick was still a bit damp so likely hatched sometime between 0500 and 0600h.

????? Princes appears to be totally exhausted. At this time she is seems to have given in to a faceplant. Awwww!
She has repositioned and from what I see.... I think/hope that tonight's the night.
