This year, the birds incubated four eggs, and all four hatched. The smallest chick is several days younger than the others, but is usually up front to be fed, and is catching up fast.

Here is some information about Brighton which is on the coast in East Sussex ....

This is also an area where the peregrines were culled during WW2 as they were seen as a risk to/for information crossing the English Channel by pigeon.  After the war the population rebounded very well then DDT was used and well the population crashed.


Nesting History at this site
  • 2013 - 4 eggs laid at the end of March, hatched early May, banded May 22nd and fledge mid-June = 3 male chicks, 1 female
  • 2012 - 4 eggs laid end of March, 3 of 4 hatched the end of April/beginning of May, banded May 21st, 2 fledged mid-June = 2 male chicks
  • 2011 - 4 eggs laid beginning of April, hatched end of first week in May, banded May 27th and fledge end of June = 2 male chicks, 2 females.
  • 2010 - 4 eggs laid end of March/start of April; 2 hatched early May, banded May 27th, fledged late June = 2 male chicks
  • 2009 - 4 eggs laid first week of April, all hatched mid-May, banded June 4th, fledged last week of June = 1 male chick & 2 female
  • 2008 - 4 eggs laid last week of March, all hatched last week of April, banded May 19th, fledged second week of June 3 = male chicks & 1 female
  • 2007 - 4 eggs laid late March, 2 hatched late April, banded May 22nd, both fledged mid-June = 1 male chick & 1 female
  • 2006 - 3 eggs laid, all hatched first week of May, banded May 26th & all fledged successfully = 2 male chicks & 1 female
  • 2005 - 4 eggs laid last week of March, 3 eggs hatched early May, banded May 25th, 2 fledged late June = 1 male chick & 1 female
  • 2004 - 4 eggs laid mid-March, all hatched end of April, banded May 20th, fledged early in June = 1 male chick & 2 female
  • 2003 - no lay or hatch information, banded May 19th, fledged end of May = 3 male chicks
  • 2002 - did not nest on Sussex Heights, rather 3 chicks fledged from the West Pier mid-June = 3 female chicks
  • 2001 - 3 eggs laid end of March, all hatched first week of May, banded May 28th, 2 chicks fledged mid-June = 1 male chick & 1 female
  • 2000 - 3 eggs laid first week of April, all hatched second week of May, banded June 2nd, fledged end of June = 3 female chicks
  • 1999 - 4 eggs laid first week of April, all hatched first week of May, banded May 29th, 3 fledged end of June = 3 female chicks
  • 1998 - 3 eggs hatched early April, 2 hatched second week of May, banded June 4, fledge end of June = 2 female chicks
