Sometimes when we are watching the ledge the world narrows down to a 4ft by 4ft patch of gravel.  Saw Smiley sitting on the edge of the nestbox and it was hard to reconcile the conditions in one 4x4 square with the other other when the only difference is west vs east.

Nothing wrong on the ledge, just the same old, same old until it a) gets warmer and/or b) the chicks start hatching.  ;)

Agreed TPC - Love ya Princess...... but....STOOPID!!  :(

GCG:
Perhaps the STARS ambulance could transport them to this nest. If only!

The Peregrine Chick:
Okay, weather geek stuff for those who are interested ...

Had a look at the weather since midnight and the wind has been clocking around all the points, unfortunately, least often from the west which would be best for the ledge.  Winds are currently gusting 25-50 km/h and have been since midnight.  At 1126h a gust of 51.3km/h recorded from the east.  Winds aren't expected to decrease until into Monday ... would be nice if they clocked a bit more west, that would provide the birds with a bit of respite.  For those who are unfamiliar with the compass points downtown, the Radisson is angled a bit and faces NNW, so the north wind has a clear shot at the nestledge (and can be funnelled by the canyons formed by the buildings downtown) and is why the nestbox is much more protected than it seems it should be when there is a north wind.

Total rain since midnight = 21.08 mm (as of 1145h) - highest precipitation rate was 8.6mm/hr at 0206h, fortunately it has be generally decreasing since then.  Rain stopped downtown at 0440h with a little drizzle between 0520 and 0620h.  No precipitation recorded since then.  Looking down from the skycam, the streets below are dry with the occasional wet spot (not puddle) that I can see.

More rain forecast for about 1500 through 2100 when temps are expected to have dropped enough for the rain to become snow.  Chances of snow will decrease to about 30% by 0800h Monday and the risk of any type of precipitation continues to decrease so likely just overcast and cold (single digits above zero).  Winds should drop from 40km/h overnight Monday.  Daytime temps will rise starting Tuesday, lots of sun and very little wind is forecast for the next week.  (Yippee!)
