RCF - you watch the Lincoln site quite regularly - can you remember if Alley's coloured (black) band was intact or if it looked like one of the rivets was failing?
The reason I ask is that I was thinking about the Omaha female and that she has a silver leg band. The Midwest folks have used the pink anodized bands for awhile whereas we (Canada) have stuck to the unanodized silver bands. There have been a couple of resident birds that have lost their coloured bands in the past and I wondered if perhaps 19/K's time in Omaha was because Alley (sans black band) was there and I couldn't remember if Omaha's Hera was unbanded or just had a silver band ....
thanks RCF!
Not RCF, but I wanted to mention a couple of things about the Omaha situation.
You are right, the Omaha female, Hera, has a silver USFWS band on the right leg and no band on the left leg. She was an unbanded bird when she first came to Omaha, and was given the silver band when she was in rehab after being seriously injured some years ago.
I am pretty sure that Alley remained in Lincoln while 19/K was in Omaha.
Near the beginning of the video of the battle, a female flies in and lands on the edge of the nest. The video is not clear, but I thought I could just distinguish a silver band on the right leg, so I thought it was Hera, in her tenth year at the nest.
However, it seems that there is now a new, unbanded female at the Woodmen nest. The Woodmen cams were down from September 9 of last year until earlier this month, so there is no way to know what might have happened during that time.
