I like the name Ripley, and he looks so cute in his banding photo.  :)

Thank you for bringing us this good news for Oshawa and the possibility of a live cam, Alison!

Baby peregrine falcon ‘Ripley’ hatches atop Oshawa hospital building

DURHAM — It’s a boy! A rare baby peregrine falcon hatched on the roof of the Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital building and has been named “Ripley.”

Ripley hatched in early May on the roof of the G-wing, weighing 820 grams. The name was chosen by a Lakeridge Health painter, who was one of the staff to first discover the at-risk species of falcons nesting on the roof.

. . .

A webcam has been installed on the hospital roof so maintenance workers can make sure the adult birds aren’t too close by before climbing onto the roof.

Now the Lakeridge Health IT department is working to open the video feed from the camera to the public through the Canadian Peregrine Foundation website. It’s expected to be live for the public in the next month.

It would be nice to have a webcam at this site, so I hope this works out.

2015 NESTING SEASON

The resident male at this nest is Simcoe, from the Canada Square nest in Toronto in 2012, banded black/black 63/X.

His mate is Alfrieda from Buffalo, a 2012 daughter of Diamante (son of Mariah and Kaver of Rochester) and Gleig (daughter of Madame X and Surge in Hamilton). She is banded black/green 73/AW.

Today there is a note on the Canadian Peregrine Foundation site that there will be a webcam for Simcoe and Alfrieda. No further details yet.

Love this happy hospital story! Thanks for posting Kinderchick.

Photos of the birds are beautiful, and Alveo seems the perfect name for their chick! It's especially nice to see the staff at Lakeridge Hospital are super proud of this peregrine born on their roof!
