Radisson - 2013 / Ivy & Princess
The Peregrine Chick:
The light is starting to fade so we will lose being able to see on the nestledge shortly. Princess is on-duty and the chick looked fine that last time she rearranged him/her and his/her (hopefully) soon-to-be-siblings ...

If I could know who the chick was at banding age I'd consider calling him La-Z-Boy except that I'd have to use the US pronounciation :D Maybe "Chesterfield" or "Davenport", maybe "Divan" ... ?

These two have this worked out - he sits waiting for her to yell when the rain stops, he rushes in with food for chick and for Princess and does a little brooding while she takes care of a quick meal and then she's back on the chicks again. It may be raining but it really isn't different from when they use the nestbox, Ivy has a hard time hanging out with the kids for the first few days. The adults look fine and the chick looked fine as well - looked dry and not weak or sluggish. We have another day to go, but so far so good ...

How fabulous it must be for Princess to get that little break while Ivy sits.
Mama gets to eat, spread her wings and perhaps have a great shake off.
If ever a pair could offer a good chance of survival to new chicks it is this one.
The nest ledge is a bit improved, and the forecast is not so grim as the season when Trey and Princess lost all their chicks
The Peregrine Chick:
Had a little look at the ledge with the spycam and I can't see any water on the ledge even though the light is flat so even with 20.3mm of rain falling, it doesn't take long for any water that does accumulate to drain away and I didn't see any water getting near the Princess and the chick/egg. If we have a repeat of today tomorrow, it's good to know ....
Tonight the chance of rain has dropped to 80% with another 10mm possible ...
Tomorrow's got a 90% chance of rain but the forecast is only for another possible 10mm - used to be 20mm so that's an improvement! Chance of rain tomorrow night drops to 70% ...
Saturday apparently has a 0% of rain - yippeeeeeee
And finally, had a look at radar map for southern Manitoba and northern North Dakota and it looks like no rain (maybe just spitting) from now until at least 3am. Time for Princess to dry out thoroughly and for chick to get another meal or two if Mum and Dad aren't worry about him/her getting out from undercover. It is not unusual (in dry years) for the chicks to get a meal around 2200h. If another chick hatches and there is no rain, chances are Ivy will be bringing a late night snack to the ledge ...
ballywing:
That's for sure, if they'd listened to us, they'd be nice & dry - holed up in the penthouse west nest condo right now and we'd be less stressed too!!! :-\
