Radisson - 2013 / Ivy & Princess

<< < (137/311) > >>

newchick:
1 p.m. Dinner time! ;D  The chicks are looking good and strong, and got a good meal.

bcbird:
Ivy had a short visit with the chicks before Princess arrived.

Before long she bundled them under, and now looks to be snoozing.

The Peregrine Chick:
For those worried about the parents being off the chicks, no its getting closer to the 10 day point so they are getting close to being able to thermoregulate, so as long as it isn't too sunny, too cool, wet or windy, the chicks are fine for periods of time.  As to where Princess and/or Ivy are, looking with the spycam, they are often sitting on the ledge edge ...

... and Princess may know that rain may come and is taking advantage of the neutral weather before she has to go to work, by this point the chicks are probably too large to fit "waterproofed" under Ivy so Princess will be the umbrella today I suspect ...

The Peregrine Chick:
Chronology for the morning ...

0638h - first meal - everyone was hungry, Princess too
0826h - second meal
1101h - first wingercizing!!

Haven't seen Ivy all morning, not even at the nestbox but that's not a problem, he should be off hunting and keeping an eye on his family on the east side anyway.  I'm wondering however if he isn't spending much more time patrolling his nest site with Cowboy and Joli so near by.  Why?  Because it seems to me that he isn't providing as much food as he usually does ... but that's just a suspicion, I'm going to have to go check previous year's videos to be sure when I have a bit of extra time.  Is it a problem?  No, the chicks are doing well and aren't begging for food as much/hard as we have/we will see other pairs this year.

Weather for today ....

Day - Overcast with a chance of rain, then rain in the afternoon. High of 24C. Winds from the SSE at 10 to 15 km/h. Chance of rain 80%.
Night - Partly cloudy with a chance of rain in the evening, then overcast. Low of 11C. Winds from the SE at 5 to 15 km/h.

I'm quite sure there always is a parent around...but I appreciate that it feels like there is "no one" there.  Whenever I've been in sight of the nest you can locate at least one of the parents on watch!
