soaring west:
I have a question. 2.30 in the afternoon the street below looks different. I have googled it. But can`t see what makes this shadow? They sure have GROWN.

The Peregrine Chick:

Considering the adults just need to go to the other side of the building to get out of the sun, my assumption is that they are on the ledge because they want to protect the chicks.  We've seen this behaviour with Princess before certainly, even from Ivy from time to time - he does it more in the nestbox, she does it more here on the ledge.  And once the sun passes overhead, she'll stop, so it would seem that this assumption isn't unreasonable based on the behaviour we are seeing.

No trees though, the west-side sign or even the nestbox edge would be great places to stay cooler - and often the box edge is exactly where we can find Ivy in the mornings ...

The Peregrine Chick:
Interestingly, both the adults have returned to the nestledge and have been in the "mumbrella" sunshade posture we have seen them use before.  Just never seen both of the adults do it at the same time at the same place.  The chicks are parked in the shade by the front edge of the ledge.

Interestingly, Brooklyn is doing the same thing in the nestbox at McKenzie Seeds ... maybe he's there alone because he can fit with all the chicks, not sure you could get both Hurricane and Brooklyn and their three exceeding healthy and robust chicks in that nestbox right now ...

The Peregrine Chick:
Chronology for this morning ...

* 0435h - Princess arrives on the ledge edge, chicks nibble her toes begging for food - not forthcoming and they amuse themselves around the ledge before parking themselves in the cool corner to watch the world
* 0535h - first breakfast - Princess having a hard time "feeding" the chicks - small meal, big appetites - over in a flash
* chicks preen, sprawl, wander, annoy, cat-nap, watch
* 0750h - sun is up high enough to give them a wee bit of shade and both have plopped down on their bellies
* 0819h - second breakfast - better table manners, lasted longer
* 0830h - HOLY CATS - big chick made it onto the ledge edge - had seen them on drain cover, but this was first time I'd seen on the edge ... only last a minute then back down and a run across the ledge to the cool corner with a little wingercize thrown in there
* 0834h - chicks together at the point, sprawled in the shade (stay there, stay there, stay there)
* chicks are following the shade down towards the cool corner

Looks like it will be a toasty day today folks ...
