It's great to hear that Tenzing made a safe landing on his first flight.

A nice reversal of history - our Tenzing goes first before Hillary.

The game is on . . . I think ???  There are two birds right now on the ledge.  But, one looks like Princess ???  And the other is hiding in the shade.

I missed the chance to vote on the names?  I guess that's what I get for spending my summer, basically out of touch with minimal internet connections.   :'( ::)

Another year for great names thank you TPC, for the thought that goes into the picking of the names.

1016h

Tenzing looks to be trying to find a spot to lie down on the ramp roof edge for a wee rest ... now he has tucked himself into the corner - good place to be out of the wind which apparently is gusting over 20km/h from the south/southwest according to the U of Wpg weather station.  That means it is probably funnelling up the street a bit.  Will be nice when the sun goes behind the Hotel, but that will take a bit of time yet ...

Tenzing is doing some running and flapping on the ramp ... looks like he really wants to get back up on the nestledge ... might have been seeing/hearing Princess bring in food that has set him off ... if he/we are lucky, one of the adults will bring food to him on the ramp roof ...

Looked like Princess just flew in and took some yuckovers off the ledge, maybe taking a snack to the little Mr.

Tenzing is on the roof of the parking lot ramp just south of the nestledge - he's less than 50 metres from Hillary & the nestledge.

That means he flew out and flew back safely - at least two launches and two safe landings under his "wing" ...

Checked the recording and Tenzing was doing ALOT of wingercizing and running about this morning ... Hillary kept looking at him at him oddly - sort of like (anthropomorphizing here folks) he was up to something and she wasn't quite sure it was acceptable behaviour ...

Haven't found him yet with the spy cam and don't want to use the ledgecam to look for him.  Haven't heard anything from spotters or any fledgewatchers who might be out and nothing from passersby etc, so with luck, he is safely on a roof somewhere and we just have to track him down ...

Hot day today (30C) might mean Tenzing will park himself in the shade somewhere and wait until later in the day (or evening) to make his next big move ... give him time to recover and for us to "discover" him ....

I'm fairly sure the second chick is in the shade against the wall in the white area.

For those who are a bit confused as to which wall MayShowers is referring, its the outside, ledge wall.

Names for the chicks ...

male = Tenzing - after Tenzing Norgay
female = Hillary - after Edmund Hillary

This year is the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest ...

In 1953, a ninth British expedition, led by John Hunt, returned to Nepal. Hunt selected two climbing pairs to attempt to reach the summit. The first pair (Tom Bourdillon and Charles Evans) came within 100 m (330 ft) of the summit on 26 May 1953, but turned back after running into oxygen problems. As planned, their work in route finding and breaking trail and their caches of extra oxygen were of great aid to the following pair. Two days later, the expedition made its second and final assault on the summit with its second climbing pair, the New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, a Nepali sherpa climber from Darjeeling, India. They reached the summit at 11:30 am local time on 29 May 1953 via the South Col Route. At the time, both acknowledged it as a team effort by the whole expedition, but Tenzing revealed a few years later that Hillary had put his foot on the summit first. They paused at the summit to take photographs and buried a few sweets and a small cross in the snow before descending. (Wikipedia)

Because of equipment delays this year, we couldn't get to the chicks to band them so in a way, the nestledge has been the Project's Everest.  For the peregrines however, the official Tibetan name for Mount Everest is Qomolangma, literally "Holy Mother" - a poetic but somewhat appropriate name for a nestbox or nestledge.  A high place to protect the chicks.
