They could ... which is probably why the female has just parked herself on the eggs, I'm assuming for the night.  I should say that I was able to watch the birds just before she dropped down onto the nestledge and her eggs ... he was/is sitting on the west-side nestbox in the setting sun, she was sitting on the "n" in Radisson on the east side doing some preening.  Both sides seem to equally be buffetted by the wind so it was just preference in this case.

Look up, look way up folks.  Male and female at the Radisson are sitting together on the east-side sign

--- Quote from: irenekl on April 24, 2013, 12:01 ---Tracy I am wondering how long you think the two eggs were on the nestledge?  When you saw them was that also your first look at the nestledge this year?  Do you have an approximate idea when they were laid?  Is the timing such that you are expecting a third egg anytime now?

--- End quote ---

First egg was laid on April 21st, second on April 23.  Expect third (if there is one) tomorrow or Friday and if there is a fourth, it should be laid by the end of the weekend.  Incubation should start shortly after egg three is hatched, but if the weather really does turn as warm as they say, the parents may hold off a bit and start just before egg 4.  They have a month's worth of incubation ahead of them, so sometimes pairs will stall a bit before getting down to business  if the weather is favourable.  Forecast is for 14C Friday, 17C Saturday, 18C Sunday, 13C Monday then rain and 9C on Tuesday.  However, the nestledge is on the east side of the building so away from the afternoon sun, so they might not wait to start incubating ...

GCG:
With the choice of the nestledge to lay eggs, I sincerely hope it is our infamous "Mumbrella"  ::)
