When incubation start, it may or may not be hard incubation, usually depends on the birds and the weather.  Hard incubation does usually kick in within  a couple of days of the start of incubation.

Post #154 lists off the dates and counts and Princess and Ivy got down to incubating "hard" pretty much from the start.  :)

I think that is Princess on the eggs now (or Ivy's feathers are being blown up to expose white feathers under that look like a 'crown') She's stuck to the eggs and picking at something in the gravel . . . .looks like she found something yummy to tide her over. (4:50pm)

Yes Jo, that is Princess showing off her "crown".  As for something yummy, they haven't been eating at the nestsite, so that is her do a bit of what we like to call "hoovering" and she does more of it closer to the end of incubation and when its warm and the eggs won't miss her if she leaves for a few minutes to hoover further afield.

If you are from outside Winnipeg, the sun is shining brightly in downtown Winnipeg. The wind is gusting from the north, but the temp is 21c - I think it looks colder than it actually is.

Ohhh yessss, thanks, tpc.  :-*
