Radisson - 2013 / Ivy & Princess
Baffled:
Tuned in this morning to see eggshell and to read the news of the newest arrival! I'll be glued to the cam today in hopes of seeing the new chick. Thanks for the screen capture Rose!

Me too Susha, Love to see the new fluffy, but winds & rain sometimes heavy thru Saturday dampens the thrill - going to be a stressful time the next few days.... :-\
TPC, I know this never happens, but it seems a great idea for Princess & Ivy to team up during the worst of it and be 'Mumbrella' together - double the coverage..... ???
The Peregrine Chick:
Been back through the video since last night and here's the chronology as I know it ...
* 1912h - still 4 intact eggs, no pips, no cracks showing
* 2152h - still 4 eggs, can't tell if all intact, but based on Princess' behaviour, not hatching at the time
* 0505h - Princess was picking at the eggshell - generally that is relatively soon after hatching
* 0557h - first look at chick - shift change Ivy on duty, Princess having quick feed - pale egg right behind chick almost looked like a second chick when she first moved - note, chick is pretty dry, so chick probably hatched somewhere around the 0300-0330h mark if I had to make a guess, basically o-dark-thirty :)
* 0605h - first meal of the day for Princess and first meal for chick completed & Princess back on eggs/chick
* 0639h - Ivy's brought 2nd meal - Princess off to eat, chick stuffed and lying on his/her back, Ivy keeps him/her company
* 0643h - Princess is back and on eggs/chick
* 0809-0811h - spinning and keeping out of the wind
* 0854-0855h - spinning and repositioning chick at front
... and this is how the day will probably proceed ... no rain yet but she'll be hunkered down tight I suspect for most of the next two days except to feed the chicks which will probably be quick and not as often as we might like. Fortunately a) chicks this age can't eat much, b) she knows what she is doing as a mother and c) she's nested here before - have to look at that as an advantage.
Kinderchick:
Wonderful news about the 1st chick! :D I imagine TPC will be able to tell us what time the hatch occurred. Great screen capture, Rose! :-*
