I am sure they will retrieve it at banding if the parents don't dispose of it before then. :-\ Whatever happened to it may have happened sometime overnight.

Sad News........one of the chicks has died. It was okay on June 4th, I wonder what happened? I was away yesterday and couldn't watch. :'(

As several Peregrine watchers have duly noted, one of our four chicks died within the past 24 hours. Hopefully this is an isolated case. Currently, the other three chicks all appear fine and quite spry. Coincidentally, the Woodmen also lost a chick about a week ago (at about the same age) and all four of the remaining chicks appeared fine at the time of the one chicks death. I, along with Lauren Dinan and our partners from Raptor Recovery that included Betsy Finch, Denise Lewis and Janet Stander banded the Woodmen chicks on Monday. The check-up confirmed the remaining four chicks were in good health. Hopefully the pattern recurs at the Capitol.
This is the first year, based on my memory, that I recall a chick dying in the nestbox at either the Woodmen or the Capitol. Odd that is occurred at both and fingers are crossed we do not see any more of this.

What difference a week makes. :)
