2013 NESTING SEASON

Birds are back and apparently incubating 4 eggs at the time I'm posting. :)

word from the BCAW site:

I talked to Bob and both birds made safe landings on local buildings, the second one flew so strong it ended up across the street in the shopping center on a low building. He has people in place to watch them both. Hopefully banding will happen later as they attempt another flight.

... does anybody else remember, was it Trey, flipping that eggshell into the air and it landing on his head like a hat?  Classic!  ;D

In 2010, Trooper at Columbus, Ohio, did that.  I just happened to be watching that day and captured this image:

If anyone wants a good laugh, here's a video taken by Amalandse (aka Dutch Eagle Fan) of the entire thing.  Funniest part is at about the 3:15 mark. video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kazCDQPyHms

You can tell by just looking at the video that he looks like a new parent. Some of that stuff was funny like him looking at his son or daughter wondering what they are and also him trying to put the shell on his head like a hat lol.

...checked first thing this morning, only 2 falcon chicks in the box!  A parent just came by with a very quick food drop...no info on BCAW as to when the first fledge occurred (they were all 3 of them there yesterday afternoon), hopefully that fledge went well... :o

...3 not-so-wee ones being fed right now - I love this stage, where all the chicks are huge white puffballs that look larger than their parent;  doesn't last long, I can already see some darker feathers coming in on wingtips...hilarious - all 3 are in a small group, and the parent is positioned perfectly in front of the middle chick - parent's head goes down to the food package, comes up with a tidbit, and all 3 chicks rise up (almost on tiptoe) simultaneously to try to grab it - it's like some sort of line dance.  Should put it to music   ;D

...had it up at the bottom of my screen and I've been watching for awhile - got up to go to the washroom, got back, and there's the newest hatch!!! Obviously, it was waiting for me to leave.. >:(

...almost 48 hours since the third egg hatched, and that last egg is still sitting there (still being incubated) -I'm wondering if it is going to hatch at all, now...mind you, 3 chicks are still more than acceptable...
