I don't think this image is defensive Bev, it looks more like "tired chick".  Young fledglings will often let their wings droop like this, especially in hot weather but also because they are big things to keep waving about and the chicks get tired.  Defensive would be with his back to a wall - feet are the business end of a falcon at any age and stage.  Chase on the other hand is watching something and his back to the wall.  Were he an older, more experienced or a born-to-be-dad male peregrine, from that photo I would have thought "Dad is keeping an eye on the sky while his tired kid takes a break on the ledge above him".

I know you are worried about Feist - so a few questions: Are Radisson and Chase always visible when you see them?  Or is it one or the other, sometimes both?  Or are they always easy to find?  Are they always perched or flying or a bit of both?  Do you see them feeding?  Are they in their normal spots?  Does Chase bring food into Radisson?  Are Radisson and Chase taking flights together?  Are they relaxed - by that I mean, are they perching near each other and napping and preening for hours?  Odd questions I know, but if you wouldn't mind ...

july 15th

no pictures as it rained most of day and adults were gone a lot but Feist just was incredible. He taught himself , how to swoop and he made it to Newton apartments. He wanted to follow the adults but R cacked at him to stay put. He went there a few times looking out for them and then Flew to K-ching building where R made him a food drop.  I realized that day how hacking could work. Because this little guy was virtually on his own and it broke my heart. But then Falcons are loners, but usually at this stage they have siblings or the help of both parents. R had to do it all and keep Chase at bay as well. thus he was alone a lot. but we saw him conquer many heights and buildings in the rain.

July 16th  The last day we would see him

this was an unusual day as workers had to go onot roof on Clinica science and R was really ticked as Feist was feeding on Maz. I went over and talked to workers and they assured me they would do their job  quickly. Rosemarie was with me. they just quickly opened door and put sump pump on roof and then put hose over back end of CS and closed door and water pumped off. I was grateful for their cooperation but once Again R had been disturbed this year.

Feist   loved to fly but was afraid o f Chase. This day he would soar to the greatest heights. And  he would chase after his dinner. He would go into a dive and it gave me goosebumps And I just was in awe. As he learned so much in such little time. I thought , this guy is a survivor and so this is how I must think .

No news is good news. my eyes to the skies.

and so now I must finally  e-mail all my team. I have held off, but it is time

july14 Fesit did not do too much most of day as it was hot. He stayed in the sun south side of College Plaza Radisson tried to get him ot move several times . He finally moved and flew up the back and we finally saw him on the roof of college Plaza, We were so excited to see him there.

Peter and Elaine stayed with him for part of morning and beginnning of afternoon. Peter and I stayed with him for rest of day. Maggie came over for a bit

I am really struggling with How to do this tribute. It is not in memory as I cannot believe he is gone. I just remember how Radisson went missing 5 days after she fledged and ended up here so I am hoping to hear of Feist at a site one day.

I loved the idea of Radisson since , she was from Winnipeg....home grown kind of thing..

Sometimes the problem children are the ones who come back ... Sherpa was a solo male and of course fledge early.  Way before fledging however, he kept climbing out of the nestbox at the Radisson.  The sides weren't quite as high as they are now, but still too high for a wee chick, well, a chick other than Sherpa.  First time out was at about 10 days as  I recall, second time was at banding, third time I didn't bother as he'd proven he could keep his balance and then he fledged at something like 35 days (I'm going to have to check my records with him) and ended up in a construction site requiring me to call the local constabulary before breaking into the safety zone.  Sherpa was fine and he went back up on the roof (with a police escort no less) and he was off again, this time without need for human assistance.  I fully expected to have him take over the Radisson territory (only territory in Winnipeg) and when he came back a couple of years later, it looked good.  He flew himself into a fence out in West Winnipeg a couple of summers later, and that was that. Bird could climb over/out of anything, quite remarkable, and hair-raising.

And there have been lots of chicks in recent years coming down on roads and alleys, on low rooftops, garden patios and in smokestacks.  Most of them make it out despite the odds against them.  And those are just the ones we know about!  So no news is good news until you get the bad news.

I will be coming over here to post but will fill in some of reports from a few days. Our little guy is missing since Tuesday morning and I am devastated . Keep  going over and looking and eyes to skies and listening. It is bizarre as he was flying well, diving, sticking landings , he chased after R for food Monday afternoon, soared way up in the clouds with R.
He leoved to fly. he would land and then fly again. Height was not a problem. we rescued him on Thursday afternoon july12, after he fledged in morning, but it was the heat .Later that evening he was flying like a trooper again.

but I keep remembering what Tracy told me about Radisson , that she was not seen 5 days after fledging

 and she winded up here. So I am hoping.

I have lots of pictures but will post only if you are interested. And  I have quite a few things to say about our Feist.

We have had lots of problems with our young resident male.

Don't give up hope Bev. Hurricane our resident female fledged from the Radisson in 2007 and after only a couple of days wasn't seen again until 2009 in Grand Forks or Fargo and only for a short time, then disappeared only to turn up in Brandon with Zeus. This is her fourth nest and the male 2010,2011,2012 is Brooklyn(fledged 2007 from McKenzies Seed building).An interesting little fact about Hurricane is that she was banded as a male because she was small and what a surprise she layed four eggs and raised four chicks that all migrated.No news is quite often good news.

Tonight, just like Bev and Peter, we walked and looked..I couldn't even find R or C and groups of crows where fiying in the area of the parkade and did not see them , chasing them away...I hope that C and R found him outside the area and are with him..I can only hope...
