Radisson - 2012 / Ivy & Princess
The Peregrine Chick:
GOOD NEWS
Whoo hoo, internet connection is back!!! We have to get some upgrades to the CBC computer but I don't believe that will affect our being able to keep track of Princess, Ivy and the 4 eggs and it won't interfere with the webcam launch - date is tentative at the moment, but should be around the beginning of May - will post confirmed date when I have it.
BETTER NEWS
With the restored internet connection I've been going blind going through the video. Have some blurry video of Ivy with Miss Hanky-Panky but couldn't get a band number but I'm pretty sure I saw an anodized band on her left leg - the anodized band would make her a US bird but most US birds have their coloured bands on their left legs. Will go back and check photos of Sandy and see what leg she has her coloured band on as she is most likely Miss Hanky-Panky given her history of housesitting at the Radisson.
BEST NEWS
Have been able to confirm laying dates at the Radisson - 7 days between first and last egg and incubation began right on time with egg #3.
Egg 1 - April 3 @ 0740h
Egg 2 - April 5 @ 0903h
Egg 3 - April 7/8 overnight (between 10pm and 7am - too dark to see on camera)
Egg 4 - April 10 @ 1150h
Interestingly, both Princess and Ivy have been on the eggs alot of the time right from the laying of egg 1 - particularly first thing in the morning, then off in the midday period then back as sunshades in the afternoon. Not really surprising since daily highs April 3-6 were 14C, 16C, 20C respectively. Hard incubation began - morning of April 7th (before egg 3 laid) and daily high temperature dropped from 20C on the 6th to 12C on the 7th. April 8th was 9C, 9th was -0.7C (high for the day) and the 10th was almost 3C. From April 11th to 18th, daily highs have ranged from 4C to 18C. What a change from say 5 years ago when Trey and Princess were nesting in an icestorm on April 24/25 incubating 3 eggs, then got hit with a snowstorm on May 4th.
So say, 28 days of incubation from April 7th is May 5th, but Princess usually incubates for between 31 and 34 days. So, estimated hatch date range is May 7th to 10th.
Saoirse:
In the city today to catch up with some friends and, of course, made a point of looking for "our" birds . . . drove up Portage Avenue with no luck, walked along near the Radisson searching the sky and still had no luck. Next time! ::)
The Peregrine Chick:
Still working on the internet connection here, hopefully will get sorted soon.
And for our out-of-province phanatics, it's not been "sunny Manitoba" for the last few days but it looks like we are to have some sun soon. Here's the Winnipeg weather report to the weekend ...
Today - Cloudy. 40 percent chance of showers this morning. Wind northeast 30 km/h becoming light early this morning. High 8.
Tonight - Clearing this evening. Low minus 5.
Thursday - Sunny. Wind becoming north 20 km/h early in the evening. High 6.
Friday - Sunny. Low minus 5. High 10.
Mother Hen:
