I know, but it's SO hard not to anthro(whatever)ise them! ;)
The Peregrine Chick:
2030h
Yup we are getting hammered with rain, wind and hail at the moment here in Winnipeg. Thunder and lightning as well. At 2010h we still had colour on all the cams, now they have shifted into low light mode and all we get is black and white. Looking at the image you'd think it was way past sunset but its just the cloud cover with this storm. Princess is getting soaked, rain is collecting/running down the louvres abover her and she's getting shot with water on the back of her neck and right shoulder. All the kids seem find, she's got them all tucked under her. At this point they are half-way to being able to thermoregulate but Princess seems to have them pretty well covered though I'm sure at least one of the little darlings got a bit wet as s/he was trying to burrow his way further under Mom.
Interesting to watch her - Madame for sure would have manhandled her chicks further undercover even though she almost never laid eggs anywhere but in the open part of the nestbox. T-Rex too would have move the kids in the rain. But not Princess - she's got a dry spot under her and she's not moving. Might be a better strategy, we will have to see tomorrow morning ...
Kinderchick:
Yikes! :o It would be great if Princess would move under cover, wouldn't it? What a storm! At least she's able to keep the chicks covered.

I so have to agree with your words. But I guess when the scrapes are made out on the cliffs there is no elemental protection other than what the parents give. At least it is warm so that they are not cold and wet!!! She really does need to do a shuggle shuffle!! ;)
