Whew! So glad to hear that, TPC. :-* When I checked on the chicks early this morning at one of the feedings, I could only count 3 chicks. I guess the 4th one was stuck in the middle of the chickpile somewhere and I just couldn't see it.

moka:
Luckily she's got great instincts.

Ivy is so much smaller that the chicks would not be as well protected.

I imagine that is true for most pairs.

Wen't back through the video since the most recent meal didn't really show the chicks well - anywho, went back to the 0600+ feeding this morning and counted all four heads before they piled in on one another awaiting Princess' return.  So, so far, looks like no one came out worse for wear in yesterday's rain.  Princess is chasing Ivy off when he tries to brood the chicks so she seems to be very cautious/protective of the kids in the cool/wet.  She's been letting him brood earlier so looks like this is her response to the weather.  Experienced mom alright.

For those of you from away, here's the Environment Canada forecast for the long weekend ...

* Today - Periods of rain. Amount 10 to 20 mm. Wind northwest 20 km/h. High 13 / Tonight - Clearing this evening. Wind northwest 20 km/h becoming light early this evening. Low plus 5.
* Sunday - A mix of sun and cloud with 30 percent chance of showers in the morning and early in the afternoon. Otherwise sunny. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h in the morning. High 18.
* Monday - Sunny. Low 6. High 20.

Who was it who came up with the phrase "huddle-cuddle" a couple of years ago?  Not sure if it has made it into the Phanatic's Dictionary yet but will check.  In any case, with the cooler temps this morning (its been so warm since they hatched I'm sure it was a shock), this morning's chickpiles have definitely been "huddle-cuddles"!
